Ok, I'll try again here:
I've never had any use for one, and I'm not the type to prepare for the end times, but all the gun talk and politics have had me reading a lot about AR's. I almost want one now, partially as a frick you to the anti's and partially just as a toy.
Assuming prices fall back to near normal at some point, which maker should I look for? How much they cost? How accurate are they? Will I still be cool if I only do a few useful mods and don't go deluxe-complete-with-beard-trimmer-and-boot-dryer mod?

First off, who trims their beard? Second, a boot dryer can come in handy on those cold wet days.
But seriously, a straight out of the box AR with iron sights is capable of 500 yard shots.

got a friend that shot real solid groupings at 600 using irons. 600 fking yards.

just managed to rack up 6 pmags 30rd for free. i don't even have to pay S&H... can't tell my secrets or my identity will be spoiled.

Whats the ammunition sight that compares all the ammo prices and tells you which place is cheapest? Used it a freaking week ago and already forgot.
