To all AR15 building experts:

I want to attempt to build my first AR15 (.223). Can someone make alist of all the parts necessary, brand does not matter and an estimated price next to each. I have never done this and want a reliable list to check off as I get pieces.

TIA

ETA: Any special tools needed?

Thinking about buying this lower. It says all metal trigger parts.

You can build an actual forged, milspec lower identical to that for $60 more. Well worth it imo.

It's the building part I'm worried about because I'd have to buy the tools also, and then there's the worry that "what if I did something wrong?"

There arent any special tools that are obsolutely necessary to assemble a lower. And as nervous as you may be about messing something up, every step you can check function to make sure it works. It either will or wont. It's very hard to assemble improperly.

I'm reading through the thread that was linked, I just figure with my luck something will get ruined.

Keep an eye out on palmetto state, I got a blemished upper for a pretty good price. Your only issue then is having to get the bolt carrier group and charging handle.

If you have a ball peen hammer, some vice grips and electricians tape you should be ok. Punches and slave pins really help but arent necessary

Well, I guess I'm set on the tools then. I kinda want to build a ar pistol, but I haven't decided yet. IIRC the rule is that if you start with an incomplete lower you can build it either way, right?

It depends on how its registered. If its registered as a pistol you can build either. If its registered as a rifle then you can only build a rifle.

What do you mean when you say registered? Does it need to be marked as pistol on the lower?

I always thought for an AR pistol you just needed the pistol buffer tube?

Finally sighted in the AR this morning. Went to the range by Morganza and shot for a while. Towards the end we shot at an explosive target which was pretty freaking cool. So glad I got this thing.
