Tape it up! Some springs flew around the room and I was lucky enough to find them.

Tape it up and make an enclosure out of pillows to catch the inevitable detent launch.

Academy has an 18 gun liberty safe for $499.99. This might be the one I get.

You got roll pin punches? I didn't have any trouble losing detents.
Just tape it up like GB said and take your time

Just use a box cutter blade to keep that detent pin in while you slide the breakdown pin in. Just make sure you don't let that razor slip

I get the impression that I may end up with bloody fingers and a spring in my eye

No way you'll get lucky enough for the detent to hit your face. The one time I let one slip, it was never found, I think it's still bouncing around the house.

Best tip no one ever mentions is to use a pair of vise grips, split joint, channel locks or similar pliers to push roll pins in. wrapping the pliers in a rag and clamping down almost guarantees a scratch free job and eliminates the need to tape the receiver up.

ETA: Also if you're building a polymer lower make sure all the holes are in spec before you start shoving detent springs and detents in them. I was installing the front take down pin on an FMK that was out of spec. I put the spring in and then the detent, I pushed it down with a razor blade and slid the take down pin in place. Well, the detent never popped back up into place. The hole was too small and i had wedge it in there thinking I was fighting the spring. There's no way to hammer it out from the other side on that hole. I tried several things to get it unstuck including heating it, drilling it, blowing compressed air in the vent hole and finally slamming it on the ground repeatedly maybe giving it a few kicks here and there and it never budged.I set it on the shelf and decided I would just have to hammer the detent in further and use KNS pins, maybe just turn it into a .22 build. Well I was looking at it a few weeks after the incident, thinking about how I would never buy another shitty ATI product again, and notice that after all that time the little spring had pushed the detent out. I re-drilled both detent holes with a 3/32 drill as well as the take down pin holes, which were also out of spec, and now it works fine.

We mentioned this a page or two back. It's def easier than using a punch IMO.

Once I get my MBUS lined up I'll be on the search for optics (Can't find the front sight). Everywhere I look seems to say that Aimpoint is the way to go. Any different brand or particular style of aimpoint you guys would recommend?

Do if you have an enclose space, like a small office room, or maybe a walk-in shower, do it in there in case a spring/detent goes kamikaze on you.

Aimpoints are very expensive, you can look at Primary Arms for a cheaper version of it.

What front sight are you missing?

I feel like the official spokesperson for this because i mention it so much, but for the money you cant really go wrong with the aimpoint PRO imo. You get the ruggedness and quality of an aimpoint at a great price. Can routinely find them for $400. They come with all the necessary mounting hardware as well as the spacer for cowitness. The battery life is not as long as the compM4 (which is what i would personally prefer if money werent an option) but its still like 3 yrs or something at less than half the cost.

I know we've talked about it before, and since it concerns ARs I decided to put it in here instead of in its own thread.

Magpul is saying after Wednesday, when the CO Gov. is expected to sign the bill Magpul will have the first magazines produced outside of CO within 30 days, so doesn't look like it will be much of a loss in terms of production/availability.
