Linebacker Kevin Minter's breakout season with the LSU defense netted him the Charles McClendon Award as the Tigers's most valuable player Sunday at the annual team banquet. Minter, a second team All-American, led the team with 111 tackles.

Well deserved. Most consistent player on our team this year. He plays like that next year and he's a first round lock.

Natural leader and definitely deserved MVP honors.

I think there's a better chance than most people think. No info or anything like that, just a gut feeling.

He appears to be 5'11", which will hurt him no matter what year he comes out. Id love him to come back, but he aint getting any taller. Hes already been here 4 years, so i think hes gone. And he probably.should be, as much as we dont wa.t him to.

Any people in this thread who really follow the draft?

How does this year's probable LB class compare with next year's LB class?

We have Debo and Ronnie Feist as LBs. Add Lamar Louis in there too.

All have played some this year. They all look good, just need a little tweaking.

I just haven't seen a MLB like Minter since Sheppard. He had an insane season.

Just seems like he came out of nowhere. I know he played last year but he had a great season, to put it mildly. Keep your fingers crossed!

Which is why he's not coming back. They will always have that question lingering over his head and he graduated. He has no reason to come back to LSU and avoid the draft. His stock will never soar because of his size.

All things considered, Mingo, Montgomery, Reid and possibly Logan will all be gone too. He's not going to take a chance at breaking in an entirely new dline next year. His production might go down because of that.

I had a feeling he was gonna have a monster year. In that preseason workout vid Minter looked like he could squat a pickup truck.

His height is gonna hurt his draft status but you can make a long career in the NFL at 5'11" to 6'0 range at MLB. Many great middle linebackers have been around that height. I can probably name at least 20 off the top on my head. Being too tall at the MLB position can be a huge detriment. Those guys tend to be shorter and more compact anyway. Leverage is important for them. He may not get drafted high but he will be a productive NFL player in my opinion. He is too smart a player.

Some players of similar height to Minter or shorter. Not a horrible list. Minter will be a solid pro.
John Beason
Derrick Brooks
Sam Mills
London Fletcher
Zack Thomas
Jon Vilma
Mike Singletary
Chris Spielman
Mychal Kendricks
Lofa Tatupu
NaVorro Bowman
David Hawthorne
Stephen Tulloch
