Here we have Alabama-an almost 10 point favorite over the Number 1 ranked Team-with almost every talking head sportscaster saying every high ranked SEC team would be favored over ND.--LSU also! Do you really think the new playoff system will improve this mess? The current ranking system has no credibility and I see no signs of improvement with the playoff system.

No, but it'll make the LSU's, UGAs, Oregon's and such shut up... And I mean that in a way of saying no one can bitch... If the number 10 team is saying what about us they can go suck a d**k...

This year, along with the last few, deserved at least an 8 team playoff

The media will still lobby for what teams they want in the playoffs... 4 teams will have a chance instead of 2. Bias will continue to be a major flaw.

The media has way too much power. It will improve when they form the super conferences they want. NFL style is the ultimate goal I believe.

Why are you laughing? FCS, D2 and D3 do it without any issues at all. The exams and academic excuses are the biggest joke. What is it going to take for a national talking head to admit that the only thing preventing it is money?

just b/c theyre a favorite doesn't mean anything. So you would rank Alabama over ND right now just based on a spread?

Then how would make a team like LSU, or others like it, "shut up"?

--NO perhaps not-but most of the various folks who also cast ballots in the various polls (and vote ND #1) also choose Alabama as the winner of the game and opine that the other top ranked SEC teams would also be favored to win. Where is the logic in that my friend!!

It will NEVER be a true playoff. When it is finalized there will be a limit on how many schools per conference get in the playoff. No matter whether its 4, 8, or 16. The lesser conferences (the other 5 and ND) will guarantee themselves a shot.

so what you suggest then base rankings on all these guys on t.v. "speculating" on who they think will win? Disregard the BCS ranking system, which is 10x more comprehensive than some talking head, and had 14 years to evolve

It's all speculation my friend! At least when you're speculating, don't insult us with your rankings and then say -I don't think my number one ranked team will win the game. I'm not suggesting that these guys know any more than any one else-just dont insult us with your rankings-Many of these talking heads vote in various rankings. The BCS is no different!- The coaches pool is a joke! The computer rankings are a joke! What's your solution? I say have a playoff system that goes beyond 4 teams-at least 8-10 with a pre-determined process for ranking the teams--at least 60-70% of the total rank-- then perhaps select the other 30-40 % weighting from a select group of non (talking head-ESPN or other sports broadcasting self interest groups) This later group will be a major challange-What ever group is selected will have a natural bias.-Perhaps a large enough group will help moderate the bias. What you say Einstein?

there is a pre-determined process it's called the BCS. Yeah your ranking system is better than the BCS formula, which had 14 years to evolve, comprehends every faucet of analysis that the best statisticians, pollsters, and football minds have agreed upon. And that "select group" you're speaking of is the Harris poll. but let me guess you have implemented some type of playoff system before and it worked wonders

The Harris poll is exactly one of the polls that contains coaches-media types etc. that rank a team higher than a team they may be playing and then turn around and say that team has no chance of beating the lower ranked team.(Case in point ND and Alabama)--No credibility whatsoever. I'm not a Bama fan, but I think that example is a great one. Your're not going to get many poeple to agree with you that the BCS has been sucessful. That's why it's being overwhelmingly booted out the door. The reason it's been around 14 years is not because of it's great success as you unfortunately believe but because there was a contract in place for it and there were too many groups making too much money from that process. It got to the point where public outrage forced a much need change.
