According to Mark Ewing, the LSU athletic department’s chief financial officer, LSU’s $18.3 million profit came before the department donated approximately $8.2 million to the academic side of the university.

Incredible. And yet people will still complain about the state of affairs between the AD and University.

Terrible news. I won't get caught up into this thread again but I'll reiterate how absolutely ridiculous it is that we expect to stay this competitive when all our money goes to the university because they can't deal with its own budgetary mishaps.

As they should. It is nice having a financially stable and independent Athletic Department

Put the $8.2 million into the Men's BB team and we can turn January - March into more fun, be top Ten, and generate more profits..like KU, Duke..etc...

I don't like subsidizing shitty planning by politicians and lazy professors...

And Yes , I give huge amounts of money to LSU..so huge I feel for my family/friends safety if I announce the dollar amount

Yes, let's just redistribute the wealth into mediocrity to the detriment of the athletic program's continued success.

The only problem is that the University is going to start to depend on these donations from the AD.

When the AD doesn't make as much money (LSU/SEC down period in football), the University is going to end up several million under budget.

Yes, they are going to say they don't budget for it, but show me a single person who doesn't count on a Christmas bonus (if they get one every year).

Should have been at least 46%. I'm complaining.

But that is pretty sweet. Big bucks coming LSU's way.

LSU has one of the only Athletic Departments that actually turns a profit. We aren't screwing up our Athletic Department by donating some of that profit to the college that every single athlete at LSU attends.

has the athletic department been negatively impacted? I've yet to see that. It looks like we're putting new facilities left and right.

The Athletic Department is nothing without the university.

While I understand what you are saying, TA is making a valid point that the University should pursue better methods of overcoming the budget shortfall instead of effectively raiding the Athletic Department.

which is an obvious point, but right now the university needs whatever funding it can get.

To be fair there is still significant waste at LSU A&M.

Well nothing short of an amendment to the state constitution (or the elimination of redundant fourth-tier directional schools and HBCUs) is going to have that kind of significant impact on the budget of LSU.
