Does Sumlin do the play calling? If he does it doesn't even really matter.

Last time we had a head coach do the playcalling, 2011 happened.

Honestly, I would have either Beatty or McKinney call the plays and get an experienced QB coach?

So he doesn't do the play calling? This could hurt then.

I don't even know if he is in coaching anymore, but if he is, probably not a bad idea for someone to make him a OC. He was TERRIBLE as a HC, but would likely make a good OC.

Not really.. Most of their scoring\big plays were Johnny Manziel scrambling or running out of the pocket and getting more time for WR's to finally get open. Not necessarily based on the playcalling. As long as they keep the fast paced uptempo style they should be fine.

Here's an interesting idea:

Jerrod Johnson as QB coach. He seems to be able to call plays far better than he was able to execute them.

Throw gobs of money at Shannon Dawson. TAMU should be able to offer 300-400k more than he makes at WVU, and he may want to be back in Texas.

I could get behind Shannon Dawson. He's got the experience and WVU runs a similar scheme. He's relatively young as well (~44).

A kind of like the idea of promoting from within the existing coaching staff at least until the bowl game is complete. A lot of people seem to like the idea of David Beaty. Maybe he can help coordinate until after the cotton bowl?

We CANNOT lose David Beaty. He is our #1 recruiter by far. At the very least, we need a good quarterbacks coach, but the playcalling must be separate from the head coach regardless of who it is.
