At least he didn't lie to them.

Hard to fault him. Only better way he could have handled that would be to bow out of the dinner all together. I mean, what is the right thing to do? Say "well I'm interviewing right now"?

Probably the most professional thing he could have done, IMO.

It really depends if he knew prior to that meeting he was going to take the job, which it appears so. Theres nothing professional about walking out of a dinner without saying anything.

I didn't really get why he left? Since when in Cincinatti a step up from Texas Tech?

He improved the program at Tech, met with the team and had a great discussion about leaving with them, etc...at meeting's end, his TT players gave him a standing O and thanked him. A big part of the decision involves his wife and he wanted to be back near SEC country, etc. It happened fast, the offer and acceptance, but he handled it as professionally as possible. Tech was only paying him $300K base, but it isn't about the money. He really wanted the Arkansas job!

They thought he was going to the restroom but he left the restaurant.

Since the program went from being a near-BCS program under Leach to being in a post-Leach era. On top of that, people in the coaching changes board claim that Tubby's wife had a drunken car accident that killed a local and was covered up by the powers-that-be. Apparently the locals didn't take it too well.

He likely excused himself from the table. He was in a no-win situation. Hindsight says he probably shouldn't have even attended the dinner, but it was certainly better than lying to the recruit. I took a new job a few months ago and had to sit at a dinner with a client just before I was leaving for my new role and talk to them about the long-term benefits and partnership that would occur. I felt scummy the entire dinner.

At any point did you feel like saying you were going to the restroom and bolting the restaurant was a viable option?

That wasn't the point I was trying to make. That dinner was a no-win situation. Again, he likely excused himself from the table. Which is different than going to the restroom and not coming back.

To be fair though it was an 87 year old that died 3 months after the accident. Not like the deceased had been in the hospital hanging on to life either, guy had been living at his house.
