Looks like there are some rezoning issues still to dealt with.
I didn't see it posted yet.

If you thought the new Taco Bell on South Claiborne was exciting news for Uptown New Orleans, just wait till you meet its new neighbors. If Tuesday afternoon’s approval by the City Planning Commission is any indication, a major new shopping center called Magnolia Marketplace is soon headed for the large open area just off South Claiborne Avenue adjacent to the Harmony Oaks development.
At two stories and 156,000 square feet, the project is actually larger than the Costco store being developed on Carrollton Avenue, though plans submitted to the City Planning Commission show it divided among six tenants. The businesses listed on the plans are Ross, TJ Maxx, Shoe Carnival, Ulta, Pet Smart and Michael’s, although the status of negotiations with each of those tenants was not detailed. The main retail building stretches from Toledano to Washington, in the center of the block between Clara and South Claiborne, with a two level parking garage in front of it.
The project will also feature a Raising Cane’s fried-chicken joint in a separate building at the corner of Toledano and Claiborne, which would join McDonald’s and the forthcoming Taco Bell in the block. Although the area is zoned residential because of its past inclusion in the former C.J. Peete housing development, the new Harmony Oaks development has a smaller footprint, and this front portion was generally envisioned for commercial development, officials said.

making New Orleans look like every other city across the disgusting wasteland that has become the modern American landscape.

Yea I have no idea what a Ross or Ulta store is, or Michaels for that matter but I assume they are a clothing store.
Would rather like an academy or something.
That area is pretty hood anyway doubt I go over there much.

The McDonald's on St Charles is a bigger outrage, IMO.
We've seen a Wal Mart, a half dozen home improvement boxes, and a Walgrees every few hundred feet since Katrina.
Cane's and Popeyes gets a pass for being local chains.

Hopefully they will start setting up shop with the DWI checkpoints by the Taco Bell. I rarely go over there and it would be nice to get them off Tchoups.

Yea that's the only one I would consider venturing over there for. I've heard some horros stories about that Mcds late at night.

that's a little hyperbolic. claiborne is a shithole, and there was a taco bell there before Katrina.

it really is unbelievable that there's a two-story McD's on St Charles, and a terribly ugly one at that.
i guess the wal-mart doesn't bother me that much given what it replaced, but yeah, many many better things could've gone there.
OT-OT, does anyone know the status of the bywater riverfront project (i should say "development," as project has a different connotation in new orleans)?
