I would be worried if I were TAMU fan's.Kingsbury is one of the top OC's in the nation, and he played for Texas Tech. He's probably gone.

quote:

Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris and Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have emerged as the two front-runners for Texas Tech's vacant coaching job, sources told ESPN.

Morris and Kingsbury each met with Texas Tech on Tuesday about its coaching vacancy, according to multiple sources. Texas Tech may settle on a replacement for Tommy Tuberville by the end of the weekend, according to sources.

Kingsbury, 33, enjoyed a prolific collegiate career as the Red Raiders' quarterback from 1998 to 2002. He is set to complete his first season at Texas A&M, where he coached Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and guided an offense that averaged 552.3 yards per game -- third in the FBS.

Seems like a no brainier. Why wouldn't he go if offered?

Take him, only Tech would be stupid enough to get a guy as young as KK.

Would be a good hire for them I think. Susprised that Kingsbury's name hasn't been coming up more often in coaching searches.

I'm not. He's only been a coordinator for one year and only a coach for four. Being a good coordinator doesn't necessarily mean you have the acumen for hiring coaches and all of the other things that a head coach is responsible for off the field.

For the record, their top candidate is Morris...and Kingsbury and Hance are not exactly on good terms after what happened with Leach.

He was co OC at Houston as well, and they had a really good offense in 2011.

Either way it looks like Tech is gonna hire him, he's who their fan's want as well.

No it isn't lol. They'd easily hire Kingsbury over Morris.

Apparently they are, Kingsbury has already interviewed for the job.

I wouldn't hire a guy with a misspelled first name.

Tech should hire him in 3-4 years.

Think about it: What if they hire him too soon and he fails? They will never recover.

Right now, they need a coach who is proven under more than one staff. Chad Morris has several ties to Texas high schools from his time as Stephenville's head coach.

I'm not the one saying it.He and Morris are the top two options, Kingsbury played for Texas Tech...it isn't hard to connect the dots of where this is going.

It's a reality of a good staff: guys are going to get HC jobs.

If he takes it I'll pull for him and wish him luck.

At the end of the day its alof like the saban/smart relationship with Sumlin/KK: it's Kingsbury's offense, but sumlin has a heavy influence.

I'm happy for Kliff

I don't doubt that he will be Tech's coach. He needs to prove that he can still coach an offense without a Johnny Manziel though.

Wont happen. Kingsbury hates Kent Hance and as told those around him he'll never go to Tech while he's there. The Leach debacle soured him. Word is this is a money play and A& M is about to give him a big raise.

He pretty much called the plays for Houston two years ago, they had the number 1 ranked total offense.

Then why did he interview for the Texas Tech head coaching job last week?

It's a money play. He's fishing for a raise as he's not particularly well paid for a top OC.

Kingsbury is a good coach but he's far from the cog that drives the machine. It would be a stupid move on techs part hiring such an unproven HC after the subpar tuberville era (or typical Tech football up to before leach for the rest of us).

KK may well be offered and accept the job, but it is FAR from the done deal you are implying. First, he probably won't be offered the job. He is very young. While the fans want him, they would also be happy with Morris, who the admin (it is rumored) favor. Secondly, it is not a foregone conclusion that KK would accept the job if offered. He might, but he might not.

We will see. If he is offered and accepts the job, best of luck to him. Sumlin has always put a first rate offense on the field, regardless of who his OC was.
