So, I'm thinking about getting one due to never really hearing a bad thing about them and all the versatility they offer. My old mixer is crapped out and my meat grinder messed with the wrong meat one too many times.

My main need for it will be mixing dough and grinding meat. Will the Artisan series at 325 watt be sufficient or is it really worth the extra money to look at the pro series at 500 watt?

Thoughts?

ETA: And I know the KitchenAid is brought up a lot on here, but the search function is a dud.

I gave my wife the 325 as a gift.

I rarely ever use it. I know this though...she loves it. I have used it to grind meat and it has done just fine. Maybe someone with the 500 could give an opinion on how it performs.

does this model tilt back for easy bowl removal? if so get the 325 unless you plan on doing any catering or using it everyday.

This is the model my wife uses on a very regular bases. The head doesnt tilt back, but the bowl does lower.

She loves it, but says it's kinda hard to add anything to it, because you have to take the bowl out.

Thanks.

Doing some research it says the Artisan series does have a tilting head(never even thought about that).

Sears has a refurbed 600 Professional series w/ bigger motor for $299, but it has the up/down bowl. Apparently the up/down bowl design is used because the tilting head isn't as durable for larger batches(or something along those lines).

Up/down model is for daily or semi-commercial use (in addition to a larger, more powerful motor, better durability etc)

The tilting head is better for occasional use and lighter applications.

The better model depends on your intended purposes...

This is what the OT ballers have. $2500 for the base models.

where are you looking at purchasing this? I am thinking about getting this for the wife as well. A friend pointed me to QVC and they actually have a decent deal on the 325. Bout $350 after shipping. Comes with an extra beater. The same one at BB&B is about $400. Of course I can get a 20% off coupon with BB&B. I think Dillards has the same one for $350. I've never bought anything from QVC, and Dillards was a pain in my arse for out wedding registry. BB&B is looking better and better.

You don't need to worry about what I have chief.

But I'll tell you anyway. I have the same as heypaul and I have the grinder attachment which is an extra cost. It's at least ten years old and does well. I am going to buy a much bigger grinder and stuffer because I make a lot of sausage and summer sausages.

Don't you guys have Kohls around BR now? If so get it on sale and find someone that has an additional 30% coupon. Could wind up saving quite a bit of money.

LINK

$350, if you find someone with a 30% off coupon it's only $245 and you get a $30 rebate.

I have the artisan model and use it weekly. I do grind meat with it from time to time for hamburgers and it does just fine.

However, it does get strained now and again when mixing dough and if I used the grinder attachment more often I would buy something better for that purpose.

Just having some fun. I figured if anyone on here had one, you would.

I have the 500w in a god awful beige color. It runs great. Never used the grinder attachment. I have it, but not sure where it even is.

As far as the high dollar Hobart model. My friend in New England burned up at least 3 of them mixing bagel dough before Hobart refunded her money. They are not indestructible.

My GF uses hers weekly and loves it. My grandmother taught her how to make rolls and cinnamon bread. I'm buying her the meat grinder and sausage making attachment for Christmas although I'll probably use it more than her.

I bought that for her one Christmas about 4 or 5 years ago. That was the one and only time I participated in a 'black friday' event.
Seems like JC Penny had them for $249.00! I walked in, walked right to it, then checked out.
No hassles! (cause nobody was buying mixers that day)

With all the cakes, cookies and baking she does, I'll say it was a great investment, and still works like a champ!

I have the 325. Use it for bread making, pizza dough, meat grinding and sausage making, with attachments. Good for the weekend warrior. Highly recommend it. Next will be the pasta attachment.
