Ezekiel Ansah looked impressive tonight

Didn't get to watch it, switched over to espn3 to see when i could watch the replay and the pic of the game was Ansah with the ball, so I guess its safe to assume he was wrecking.

I really want this kid.

We can stop throwing CJ Mosley's name around as a possibility.

Click

never really got the vibe he was going to leave early anyway.

Well there's always next year. Though i don't know if he'll make it to 32 after another solid season.

Wish I had seen that bowl game tonight also. I know BYU had a good defense but kind of wanted to check that Ansah kid.

ISWYDT

I think he prolly would have been too low ranked to make to the Saints this year. Will note for next year. it's a pretty huge professional risk. Corey Webter CB LSU had a 1st Rd grade in '04. Returned, was injured, and didn't have a great year. Ended up 2nd Rd #43. This year we'll see the same for Matt Barkley who could have even been #1 last year, at least Top 5. He could fall past mid 1st.

Jeez blues, I was just shite talking.

I actually hope he has just an alright season, not hoping for an injury or anything like that of course.

no, no, was just laughing at the #32 spot reference

right on wit dat

For Mosley he looks like he could go in the second half of the 1st Rd if he would have declared. Was just commenting on the career risk he is taking. The odds are stronger IMO that he could fall off into the 2nd Rd (or lower) vs. move up into Top 10 territory. Just interesting to see how those decisions pan out for such players
---------------------

UPDATE
going into Week 17 the Saints currently sit at #17 for drafting.

Here's the outlook:

Saints WIN go 8-8
can really only go to #18 if Cowboys lose

Saints lose go 7-9
can go as low as #11 depending on whole slew of results of other games.

Actual % probability currently is #17 51%, #16 24%, #15 21%

At that spot I'm projecting Mingo as the best possible pass rusher available.

LTs Lewan or Matthews could be can't pass on BPAs. If they don't re-sign Bushrod or somebody new this could be the most likely pick

The darkhorse picks could be either Eric Reid LSU or Kenny Vaccaro TX if either graded out has high impact safeties. ditto CB Banks MsSt if graded as a shutdown corner.

I'm happy going forward at DT with Bunkley-Hicks-Johnson but Hankins Ohio St & Richardson Mizzou could be possibilities as BPAs they wouldn't pass on.

Most definitely. I personally don't know how they could ever turn down the money, but I guess love of your school or whatever is strong for some.

Back to draft talk. It's been mentioned outside of this thread, but lets bring this guys name into the mix. Margus Hunt. Freak athlete who could become a combine darling. Anybody have an opinion on where he he lands?

It would be a very depressing day in saints history to me if we take eric reid in the 1st. I think its crazy for anyone to take him in the first.

He reminds me of Josh Bullocks or Roy Williams or taylor mays;a game that works in college where people are afraid of safeties but not in the pros.

I don't really know what safety depth is looking like in this draft though.

I wouldn't be a fan of a Reid pick myself but so far he is the most commonly top ranked safety in the draft.

I put some scouting reports on Hunt in the thread bout him. Think Akiem Hicks-like potential with the same rawness. Big minus is that he is already 26. Not so good for a project.

I've mentioned Michael Johnson the Cincy DE as a UDFA possibility. He was a similar project type player. He now has 4 years NFL experience and is younger than Hunt.

fresh mocks-

walter football
10 Werner
11 Jordan
12 Banks Tampa Bay
13 Hankins Carolina
14 Mingo
15 Fisher
16 New Orleans Saints: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri
Sedrick Ellis has been a bust. He'll be hitting free agency this March, so it's unlikely he'll be back with the team. Canadian Akiem Hicks has played well, but the Saints need someone next to him who can rush the passer on the interior. Sheldon Richardson, who has been phenomenal this season, could be that guy.
17 Warmack
18 Ansah
19 Ogletree
20 Eifert
21 Montgomery

still would prefer Montgomery to replace Smith in this scenario

Draft King
10 Montgomery
11 Banks Tampa Bay
12 Hankins Carolina
13 Lewan
14 Fisher
15 Allen
16 Ogletree
17. New Orleans Saints - Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon (6'7" 240)
This draft is stacked with defensive line talent, but despite that Jordan is a guy who could end up going in the top ten.
18 Richardson
19 Warmack
20 Rhodes

full on board with Jordan if he grades out for them this high and is available

I would be satisfied with either of those honestly. I feel like theres like 10 ways we could go this year, which also lends to the excitement of this draft.

If goodell gives us our pick back aswell, I will be in full pitched tent mode.

I saw that. Am I off base here being satisfied with Hicks and Bunckly at the DT spots. IMO, as far as talent at spots and what we should be looking for:
Hicks/Bunkley > Smith/Jordan > Vilma/OLB scrub

drafttek new mock

Saints
#15 OT Taylor Lewan Michigan
the Saints would be hard-pressed to pass up the solid Wolverine OT Taylor Lewan here. With a stellar QB leading New Orleans, Drew Brees wouldn't mind (and the Saints OC would love) an additional top talent to learn the Saints offense, push a veteran for playing time, and make the entire offensive line better in the process. Lewan is a rather raw lineman as he heads into the NFL, but with his long arms and strong base, good speed and footwork, his upside is potentially All-Pro. With solid coaching and on the job training from veteran teammates, Lewan would increase Brees' effectiveness.

#77 DE Corey Lemonier Auburn
#108 DT Benny Logan LSU
#141 CB Johnny Adams Michigan St

I'd be nervous taking a DT so high again. We have struck the frick out the last few times we have used our 1st round pick on a DT. Ellis has disappointed me but he wasn't a true bust like Jonathon Sullivan was either.

Put me down as wanting a DE more than anything. If we went with an offensive tackle, I wouldn't mind. We have to get better up front on both sides if the ball.

I would like

Lewan
Lemonier
Logan
Adams

however Logan is gonna be a 2nd round pick or late first if he goes, and is Adams a senior? Early in the year he was considered a top 5 cb.

Anyway

Guys I like
Ezekiel Ansah DE, BYU, 6-7 260
Is an absolute freak, he can stop the run and rush the passer. he hits like a truck, has amazing athleticism.

Bjoren Werner DE, FSU, 6-4 273
Has a mean streak about him, that the Saints defense really need. He is a playmaker at DE, he can rush the passer or drop the runner in the backfield. His stats are a little bit skewed with 4 sacks vs Murray St and 3.5 vs Florida. He was shutout in some games, which is the only negative.

I really do not like the idea of drafting a DT, when his negative is he gets pushed around in the running game. So Sheldon Richardson is a guy i do not want the Saints to draft. I think the Saints need to trade back a few spot and pick up a few more picks. I think we finish 8-8 and trade with someone like Cincy.

Draft
24- Ezekiel Ansah DE, BYU
37- David Amerson CB, NCSU
78- Sean Porter OLB, TA&M
110- Ricky Wagner OT, WIS
142- Prentiss Waggner S, Tenn
174- Ryan Otten TE, SJSU
206- Jordan Rodgers QB, Vandy

I would positively nut over that draft.

I really hope we trade out of a mid 1st to a late 1st with additional 2nd and mid rd picks. We seriously to upgrade at DT and DB. Plus I think we will need an upgrade at OT even if Bushrod re signs. Strief has been suspect and Brown always is hurt.
