I know it is a knockoff of the other thread, but wanted your thoughts.

As popular as it was, I still think Cheers is the most underrated tv show of all time.

Arrested Development

Probably get alot of these answers but it doesn't get near the respect or acclaim it deserves

Malcolm in the Middle. It's the show that started the trend towards self aware single-camera sitcoms.

Homicide. Of course, that's because I think it's the best network show ever, and it gets overshadowed by all of the cable shows it inspired. It's the proto-Wire.

Kings is the first thing that pops in my head. It didn't last long which was too bad. It was a cool story line. Plus Ian McShane is awesome

Apparently this show is so underrated you haven't even heard of it.

Also, I think this thread should differentiate from the shows that were cancelled too early or never found an audience. That list could go on forever and we have that thread about every 6 weeks anyway.

I know I'm in a really vast minority on this one, but I thought Allen Gregory was hilarious - I'd put it third behind Archer and South Park amongst animated comedies, and it lasted 7 episodes. I think I've yet to find a single other person that liked it besides me and my son.

Nowadays most people consider this one of the best sit COMS of all time. It, Freaks and Geeks, and Firefly probably top the list of shows that ended too soon.

Amirite?

It was on the air for like 10+ years, won tons of awards, was loved by many, and is generally considered to be one of the greatest shows (definitely sitcoms) of all time.

And you think it's underrated?

I'll go with the obvious answers of things like Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, etc. But at least those are generally loved these days.

I'll go with SportsNight. Just a great show with awesome, fast-paced dialogue.

Also, if we're talking about underrated as pretty much "ignore by the masses of America," then I'll also submit Community. Sure, there are some misses here and there, but all in all it's pretty solid, and its hits are fricking grand slam homeruns.

Okay, thread police. A lot of shows listed aren't what I'd call underrated anyway.

I'm just trying to generate a different kind of discussion than what normally goes on.

I would agree with that.

South Park

You know what? I'll actually add South Park into this discussion. It bounced back a bit this past half-season, but it definitely seems to get hated on these days, but it's still VERY relevant and very clever at times. And it's managed to do that for 17 or so years...that's an incredible accomplishment. And to still be able to do it and stay relevant, all while continuing to push TV to the edges at times (I mean, just last year they had Mickey Mouse bitching on and on about making prepubescent girls wet), is something that isn't really respected as much as it should be IMO.

And in that same regard, I feel like The Office is VERY underrated nowadays. Seems like people only like to bitch about how it's "not seasons 2-4/5." But this season of The Office (and last one as well) really has been pretty good...if nothing else, it's been infinitely better than a lot of people would make you believe, which is the very definition of underrated basically.
