Final Fantasy 13..

yeah my GF tried to do something nice for me and went and picked this up. not a real big FF guy, though i played X and loved it.
anyone played this? is this worth my time? i'll play it if it's a good game

It was alright. Nothing special as far as gameplay goes.
As for the characters, a few of them were some of the most annoying characters in all video games.
The kid, Hope, is terrible. I used to let him die on purpose in fights just to do it.
Not the best of games, IMO, but worth a play if you like the gameplay of Final Fantasy.

Lightning (pink hair) is a female version of Cloud.
I actually like Vanille, though others didn't.
Fang, Sazh, and Snow just weren't memorable characters.
I hated Hope with a passion. Little bastard wouldn't quit fricking whining.

I really enjoy the combat system in 13.
Most FF fans hated it, which is fair. The characters are all terrible, and the story is terrible. Plus, 80% of the game is linear.
Endgame is fun. Try the game, if you like the combat at all after the first few chapters, stick around and finish the game. If not, don't bother. The only worthwhile thing about it is all of the endgame "side missions" .. Mark missions, whatever.
ETA: Now that I think about it, stick around for maybe ~6 chapters (unless you find the game unbearable), because until you have a larger party with a multitude of classes available, it's not that special. I enjoy how customizable and personable it is. There are thousands of combinations you can use and switch between on a whim.

That's Lightning. She is literally nothing more than a female Cloud. That is it. Same range of emotions, use of a sword, etc.

Very little doubt that Fang would enjoy it up the a.
I can't get over how bad half of the characters were and how incoherent the story was at times. Aside from Lightning and the Pulse girls I didn't give two shits about anyone else. The little Choco excluded.
SE is so poor at localization it's really amazing. FF is such an empty brand now.

One of the worst characters in video game history. The fact that he was also a major character in FF 13-2 makes me hate that game much more than I would otherwise.

I thought it was a great game. Its in my top 3 of FF games I've played. I really liked the story. It gave you a good amount of choice on how fast do you want to run through the game mixed with enough options to do side events and grind and not feel like you're being forced to do any one thing.
But no matter how much you actually like this game..do not under any circumstance play FF XIII-2. That game is an abortion. Its littered with incentives to spend $ on in game purchases. It migth as well have ads built into it. Feels like they tried to monitize a terrible game like it was a mobile app or something.

no, they just really suck at creating a story that makes sense anymore. From everything I have read, XIII was just incoherent in any language, the only way to even get close to understanding anything in the game... is by reading the instruction manual and brady games guide.

I liked it. its worth a play. Im not a fan of turn based, but FF is usually pretty good.

Final fantasy versus 13 will be better for most gameplay-wise if you don't like turn based.
