I watched a couple episodes of You Bet Your Life on Netflix from 1954. Dude was not even funny and pretty much a toolbag to those people. Albeit, they deserved it. Some were just plain weird.

Sometimes he gets off a good zinger. But those shows were not Groucho at his best

Yeah. He just fires and fires jokes and some stick while others don't.
He's like Robin Williams without the crazy characters or impressions with a mix of Don Rickles without the pop culture. I realize that might be sacrilege.

Nothing wrong with Groucho. Those early MB movies were awesome. I'd rather watch Groucho than a lot of 'commedians'. Rickles is funny as hell too. Those Dean Martin roasts were true roasts - not that crap that's on Comedy Central.

Not that I suggest you take the time if your really don't like it, but you have to watch that show over the course of season, imo, to pick up the nuance,etc. There were some pretty funny moments. George Fenneman was a great straight man.
