Hasn't this been known for a couple of days?

Ellis Johnson and Charlie Harbison had stints at Alabama. Harbison did twice.

Is this a herp derp hire?

Clemson defense has been awful the last few years, especially in the secondary.

I dunno.. 5 dbs in the NFL draft in 3 years.. Sure the lax defensive numbers could be a testament to poor coaching, but it could also be a testament to lost talent and faster offense/more defensive field time..

It remains to be seen.. The best I'm hoping for is 3-5 three and outs a game.. That sounds like terrible aspirations I know, but I think that will be enough to keep AU in most games.

The OC is real young but you are a dumbass if you think Malzahn will not have control of the offense. Ellis Johnson is not a joke hire either.

Cheese is mediocre at best as a position coach. Get used to players who can't find the ball and don't understand down and distance situations.

My biggest problem with Cheese is his fascination with height in his DBs. Look I know the theory of 6'2 CBs who can cover sounds great and every once in a decade you'll get someone who can do it, but too often at Clemson he signed tall, stiff CBs without the hips to turn and run with pure WRs. There are so many studs he legit wouldn't even look at because they were too short. It's ridiculous.

As a recruiter I will say he's quite he's quite underrated. He's not a Trooper level recruiter, but all the kids love him and he always pulls in his numbers.

Also, lol at whoever said there was a joke of a staff being assembled in Auburn. Malzahn will run the offensive show and their young OC will be one of the hottest names in CFB in 5 years. And Ellis Johnson is absolutely a top 10 DC if not better. That guy can coach with the best of em.

so in other words more of the same we've seen from the Auburn secondary in recent years.

I know it's Gus' show on offense but what kind of quality offensive assistants will want to work under a 29 yr old OC.

Ellis Johnson was good at SC, he was a trainwreck at Southern Miss, and has been up and down his entire career. He's a bad fit for a HUNH offensive system but that makes every DC look bad. Arky St's defense dropped about 30 spots in total defense under Gus.

Gussy ball is for softies, just like the staff he's putting together. A group of coaching softies.

FYI Muschamp was 30 when he was promoted to D/C.
And its still going to be Gus that hires the other assistants. Gus's offense is not designed to have "soft" OL, RB's or WRs.

Some good coordinators are not good head coaches. Most people should already know that. He was pretty good at Alabama and MSU(considering). At SC he was able to reel in some great talent and had top 15 defenses during his time there. I am confident he can get us into the top 25 in D.

no sense in arguing with the trolls... time will tell.

and as a saints fan, he should be an expert on 'soft' football... so he's got that going for him.

Will be absolutely irrelevant the OC's age. You got some sort of Napoleon complex where you can't work for people younger than yourself? Most people I work with are 20-30 years older than I, but that doesn't hinder us as a company. If you're good, you move up, regardless of age.

He's not up and down as a coordinator. He's not head coach material, but that doesn't mean he isn't an elite coordinator because he is.

Probably similiar guys that took orders from a 30 yr old Muschamp when he was at LSU.
