DE Question

Considering the history of success at the DE position for the Tigers and the apparent opportunity for early playing time, why isn't there more interest from the top DE's recently?

Explain? We have some great DE prospects committed, we pulled a great one in Hunter last year, Rasco before that.
ETA
If anything we recruited too well, and just didn't realize we could lose 4 players at once

almost all of them were interested....they just chose to commit elsewhere or haven't made a decision yet.

Guys, we're loaded at DE in this class. I'd like to see one more DT though.

Can't get all of them. We land as many talented DEs as anyone in the country. I'd rather get a class of 5 really good d-linemen than 1 top rated d-lineman. Depth is what wins in the SEC.
Don't be upset because we don't get the #1 rated DE prospect every year. First of all those ratings are subjective. Second of all, my hypothesis is that the most highly recruited prospects don't exactly relish the idea of being platooned with other top DEs. They want to stand out.

I think you are wrong there big-un. Most highly sought after recruits have confidence in their game and believe they will be the stud that gets the playing time. They tend to look at coaching and if they will be coached up to get to the next level, LSU has proven that year after year with the DL so there are no questions there. In fact the DBU label, really should read the DLU. Look at the past 10 drafts and see what the numbers are and where they were drafted we have actually had more success on the DL when it comes to number of drafted LSU players and what round they went in. Although I do realize it is pie in the sky because Henry was just hired last year so there isn't a fit.
But it sure would be nice to think about picking up Trooper Taylor, he brings Foster for sure and something tells me those two 5 star DE might be in play also. Great coach and fantastic recruiter all in all might be a better pick up than any one recruit. Although don't know how Frank Wilson would take it might be too big of a threat. Although something tells me he is destine for a HC job somewhere soon. Just don't see any wholes to fill with the hiring of Taylor, but it seems to me that he would be a great get if we could. Just like the Chavis hire, sometimes diamonds do fall out of the sky you just have to hold your hands open to catch them.

Isn't Trooper part of the reason Auburn's about to be investigated by the NCAA, and he'll be lucky to have a job of any kind next year? Isn't he thought of as nothing more than a towel waiver outside of recruiting? Why would Wilson be threatened by them hiring someone? Isn't R. Foster supposed to be a huge head case that will be as much prima donna as player.

I'd actually like to see another DE, as we are going to be much thinner at that position.
DEs Likely Returning Next Season
(We lose Aghayere and Lavar Edwards for sure, and I'm assuming Montgomery and Mingo also leave)
Jordan Allen, 6'6 252, Jr.
Danielle Hunter, 6'5 235, So.
Justin Maclin, 6'4 241, Jr.
Jermauria Rasco, 6'3 255, Jr.
DEs in this Signing Class
Frank Herron, 6'4 236
Lewis Neal, 6'1 232
MJ Patterson, 6'3 230
DTs Likely Returning Next Season
(We lose Downs for sure, and although I'm not certain as to what Bennie Logan will do, I am just speculating on what will be the scenario should he decide to leave)
Ego Ferguson, 6'3 283, Jr.
Anthony Johnson, 6'3 310, Jr.
Mickey Johnson, 5'11 312, So.
Quentin Thomas, 6'3, 279, So.
DTs in this Signing Class
Greg Gilmore, 6'4 275
Christian LaCouture, 6'5 270
Tevin Lawson, 6'4 275

The fact that Maclin and Allen have been passed up by younger players suggests to me that the coaches don't have that much confidence in them, and that there is indeed an opportunity for this year's recruits to get PT on the second team.
That said, I think we have a couple of really good athletes in Herron and Neal, and Patterson may be underrated coming from such a small place in Winnfield.
I think that between these guys, we'll find the type of speed rusher we need to replace Mingo. If Beckwith or Williams also decide to sign that is gravy.
