That a-hole wants to ban food trucks. I guess they're hurting George's.

true. Also I am interested to see who,if any,of all these poli board members will actually go out and vote tomorrow on elections that actually can change everyday life. The lack of interest in local politics are the worst thing for this country.

I'm voting for him.

I had an issue with the city so I called Smokie when I hit a dead end with DPW on the problem.

Smokie called me back within a day. As it turned out he was not able to change anything but I appreciate him following up on it and giving me a reasonable explanation rather than the do-nothing bureaucrats just giving me the runaround.

His responsiveness meant a lot to me and that is what I look for in a councilman.

Plus I like his shrimp remoulade......

I live in district 9 - so not voting in that district - I would be disappointed if Smokie is defeated - the council meetings with him and Bones is pure comic gold.

I'm on the fence.. Voted for Delgado in the primaries but I've had a possible change of heart.. Amongst other things was him sending a lackey to a Q&A style meeting with a neighborhood (friend of mine) when he was supposed to show and then the lackey wouldn't even answer question, would only hand out fliers. Said friend contacted him about the meeting and he didn't responded from my understanding. One thing Smokie does is respond and to all the bull shite

I don't know Delgado and I've only met Smokie the one time. What I do know about Delgado is he is a lawyer and IMO one of our chronic problems in govt is too many lawyers making too many laws which benefit, you guessed it, lawyers.

It's the most blatant conflict of interest we have in govt and one which is consistently ignored by voters. Smokie's food truck resolution was nothing compared to lawyers selling their influence to the legal profession when they get elected to office.

Don't forget he teamed up uber-lib Ms. Dorsey to block additional lanes on I-10 from Acadian Thruway to the Miss. River bridge.

According to Ms Dorsey, the plan to remove the Washington St. exit and extend that lane to Acadian was racist. They wouldn't have access to the hood, even though you can get off at Government St, Nicholson, or Dyremple(sp).

Think about that crap every time you are sitting on the elevated parking lot we call I-10!

Considering that the proposed expansion cuts right through his district I think he should speak up. Many residents, including myself, have no desire to spend the next 10-15 years dealing with construction, ruining, what is becoming a very distinct area of town. Does he have a personal vested interest, of course, but the district is against against the expansion. We will not solve the inner city traffic issues without a loop.

I live a stones throw away from the current expansion of I-10 at Essen so I can write you a book about interstate construction issues, but the additional lanes were needed.

I-10 is the southern most cross-country interstate route and to think its ok to keep it the same number of lanes from when it was built in the 60's is asinine.

The projects are completely different, where the Essen expansion uses existing land. To expand between the bridge and Acadian is a whole other animal that doesn't have the same land quantity available. You will be displacing homes and business for little gain by the time it's complete. A loop is only viable option to ease long term traffic issues.

Conservative Republican. Married. Very mart dude. No financial ties to any business like Smokey. I do know him personally and no, we don't always agree on everything. (I'm more of a moderate he is more conservative ) but very intelligent. Gonna be an asset to the council and is gonna take it very serious.

Let's be honest, the effect on business will be minimal (see: Chelsea's and George's) as there are almost no businesses along what would be the route of the expansion. As to the homes, the vast majority of them are worth less than $100k (the only ones that aren't are the ones between Chelsea's and the Dalrymple exit).

Highly agreed and I am still baffled as to why the federal government and/or state haven't just expropriated the properties yet (not sure who would have the legal standing to do it since it's an interstate).

If my two points seem at odds, they aren't. I agree that the loop is the only way to go, but also think trying to bring up business/home displacement is a bit of a strawman.
