Did Nick Saban have connections in the SEC when he was hired away from Michigan State? Urban Meyer away from Utah? The "HAT" is a Michigan Man? Surround Jones with a good staff and think he can't win at UT? I believe he will do alright...

You realize you just compared butch fricking jones to two of the best, if not the two best, college head coaches today? Plus "the hat" had spent several years at Okie State - so referring to him as a "Michigan Man" for this discussion is being intellectually dishonest.

Saban and Meyer didn't need "Southeastern Connections" because their programs were located inside two of the most talent-rich states in the entire country.

I want Tennessee to get this hire right.

I hope y'all open the pocket book for assistant coaches.

Was Saban considered one of "THE BEST COACHES IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL" when he was hired away from Michigan State?.. Did Florida Fans think Urban Meyer was one of the best college football coaches ever when he was hired away from Utah? Think about it..

That is absolutely correct for Meyer but Saban coaches in the State of Alabama.

Then why didn't Curly Hallman and Ron Zook win big then if all it takes is talent?

It's a six year deal for 18 million. We should be able to give him a ton of cash for assistants.

Nick Saban had marquee wins at Michigan State. As well as a turnaround at Toledo (he didn't inherit a winner). As well as several years in the NFL as DB coach and defensive coordinator. Don't compare Butch Jones to him.

The state of Alabama has lots of talent in most years. But the bigger factor for the UA job is the amount of talent within a 500 mile radius.

Butch Jones will be in over his head from day 1 and won't be given the opportunity to fix it unless he beats some big dogs in year one.

Have the normal rebuilding/trasitional year in 2013 and it'll be over before it starts.

UT thanks for keeping our big 6 chair warm for a few months, we'll be taking that back now.

I was speaking of Saban's time in Louisiana, not his present day job at Alabama. He is able to recruit at the level he is currently at with UA because of his success at LSU.

Nobody is denying this..But everyone is screaming Jones doesn't know anything about the SEC...Did Saban or Meyer before they came to LSU and Florida is what I'm saying..LSU fan's didn't want Saban and Florida fans were screaming when Spurrier didn't get rehired after Zook and they "SETTLED FOR MEYER"...

No one is screaming this.

He was hired before the age of message boards, how can you possibly know what LSU fans thought of Saban when he was hired back in 1999?

Meyer was the most sought after coach in all of college football in 2004. He was 34-6 while the head coach at Utah and had just got done leading them to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the Fiesta Bowl. Both Florida AND Notre Dame threw everything but the kitchen sink to get Meyer to their program.

He was talking about when Saban left Michigan State to go to LSU......which has more talent per capita and no serious in state recruiting rival......hence, no need for connections.
