Do you like him as OC? What do you think of him?

Since Mizzou is looking for a new OC, I thought I'd ask since I've heard his name brought up and don't know anything about him. Thanks!

Chaney will be coming back home. Decked Black and Gold calling our plays next year.

See, that reminds me too much of the one that just left. On 3rd and 1, he'd line up 5 wide, every time.

In our game, it seemed like your play calling became much more conservative in the 2nd half, and I wondered if that was Chaney or Dooley.

I would say he's solid.

He is pretty creative and multiple. Tons of different looks and willing to evolve.

He gives up on the run game a little too easily imo and is not too good at adjusting in game.

Year by year at Tennessee:
Year 1: Was Offensive Coordinator in name only. Kiffin called plays and coached QBs.

Year 2: Pretty mediocre offense. Mostly pro style stuff, but the offense really looked good when the frosh (Bray, Hunter, Da'Rick) got in the mix at the end of the year. Again, mostly pro style looks.

Year 3: Disaster. Bray and Hunter got hurt and Chaney did not know what to do. Got little to no production out of the offense outside of Da'Rick. Began evolving into a pistol/spread

Year 4: More of a spread pass heavy offense. Put up great numbers, but I would say there are 8 sure fire NFL players on this offense so his job was not too hard. Easily his best year in terms of getting the ball in the right guys hands. Bray did not develop as well as most hoped. Play calling was pretty good for the most part though.

The players seem to like him as well, very easy to root for.

Genuinely hope he does well wherever he ends up.

He doesn't like him.

I would not lose sleep if we lost him tbh.

I like him more as a person than coach.

Gotcha. He actually sounds really similar to David Yost, who just left. Yost was a fantastic recruiter and QB coach, loved the Xs and Os part of the game, but I think was over his head as an OC. It also didn't help that as OC, he was still QB coach and recruiting coordinator - that's too much for one guy. Sometimes his play calling was just unbelievable.

I think one reason Chaney is popular, at least in theory, with some Mizzou fans is that he's from Missouri so would be familiar with the state and its high schools. Presumably.

What is he like as a recruiter?

Not a recruiting coordinator type. He is a guy you send in to help out with o-lineman and QBs.

Didn't really have a specific area while with Tennessee to my knowledge, just kind of piggybacked on a few players recruitments.

OK, that kind of settles it for me. We need another great recruiter who can really connect with kids like Yost did.
