I guess if they hire him he's our coach and I'll have to support him either way.

At this point, Pelini would be a good hire

He's without a doubt the biggest name coach UT could get. His players loved him at LSU. I dunno about Nebraska.

That would help. Doolittle wasn't real popular with the players.

His defenses have had inexplicable lapses at both LSU and Nebraska. His units play well for long stretches, then absolutely disintegrate in certain circumstances. See Wisconsin.

They say he wants the UT coaching position.

I'm sure he does.

His D is playing like shite, his passing offense sucks, and he has been called on the carpet for shitty sideline behavior at least twice.

He's hanging on by a thread at Huskerville.

If you want a volatile hothead go for it. Defense sometimes has really bad games, haven't been overly impressed with his tenure @ NE. UT should be able to do better but you may have issues with your current AD conducting the search. I, for one, would like to see UT gain a semblance of stability and take steps to regain their competitivess. Then again, we owe UT for a lot of past arse whippings, too.

Agreed. He's underachieved at Nebraska, and I find his (and Muschamp and Saban's) sideline temper tantrums very unbecoming. But, you could do worse.

Nice to know SEC coaching jobs are so appealing. But how desperate are the Vols getting--Pelini's Huskers lost big to Nebraska & he's supposed to be a defensive minded coach.

I have always believed in the Peter Principle for football coaches--Pelini rose to the highest level at which he is capable of excelling as a defensive coordinator--don't think he is a very good head coach. The Vols can do better!

He has been disappointing at Nebraska. I thought he would have that team in a solid top 10 position within a few years. He has not produced.

That pretty much sums up the feedback from all sources.

It could work out fine if you keep his salary down and drop cash for top notch position coaches and recruiters.

Pelini doesn't impress me. I figured he wouldn't even be doing as well at NU as he has. But, let's face it, the B1G is way down right now.

Pelini hates to recruit.

He reminds me of Mike Archer, but so far he's been having better results (albeit against mediocre competition).

So, yeah, go ahead and hire him!

The OP didn't say Tenn. WANTED Pelini, only that he seemed willing to go there...
That's more than half way for the Vols to get a new head coach nowadays.
