Mac fans will have to wait to see which Mac line it will be because Apple, widely known for its secrecy, left it vague.

I'm sure it will be the ChinaMac.

Cook also addresses several of the challenges Apple faces in bringing production back to the United States, pointing out once again that the educational system is not producing the expertise needed for major manufacturing in consumer electronics, but he hopes that Apple's effort can help spur progress in that area.
that's a load of shite.

the major challenge that Apple faces with bringing production to the US is that the Foxconn China conditions won't fly here.

Exactly. I've been to various Foxconn factories. If people were bitching about WalMart conditions, I've love for them to see what I've seen there.

a.k.a. they aren't paying high enough wages to attract the type of "expertise" they are looking for

what's worse is that people will eat Cook's shite up because of the cult of Apple. In the next few days his talking point is going to blow up all over the news.

Maybe one day we'll admit that for many things, made in USA is a problem, not an advantage. I'd love for it to be different, but it frequently is not.

This is a pretty major deal for US manufacturing.

$100 million is $100 million dollars. That's still a decent bit of money no matter how much cash they have on hand. The contractors, vendors, etc. will be getting that cash and then it will distribute the money to employees. So at the end it is a nice $100 million investment in the country.

no, no it's not. it's a nice, but 100 million is nothing, far far far far from a major deal.

Chinese wages have increased engough and US wages have been beat down enough to make this possible. I look for this to be a continuing trend over the next decade.

oh I agree it's a huge deal that they're moving some production to the US, it's just fricking shameful that it took this long with all the money they have on hand... and then they blame education for not doing it sooner? Bull shite on the highest level.

I would also assume this what Apple is throwing in. I would imagine they will sub contractor manufacturers who will also be adding more $$$ to the deal.

You're one of those people that calls people out for no reason other than to make yourself feel better. Sounds like a cop to me.

And companies are increasingly understanding the hidden costs associated with offshoring all or part of their processes.

It costs roughly the same amount of time/money to just do it right the first time.
