Tennessee's Coaching Search reminds me of Alabama's in 2006-07

They've chased after many guys. The one closest to taking it was a Big East guy, who backed out at the last minute. Don't give up yet, it may take until January to hire a coach, and he might be worth the wait. But then again, maybe not.

They were making the same comparison earlier on 104.5. In the context of "ok worthless A.D. gtfo of the way and let the big$$ bizness guys take over, we'll get a guy.

I don't think it will take quite that long.

This is the most important thing that separates Alabama's 06-07 coaching search from the present day coaching search of Tennessee. If Charlie Strong has indeed turned down Tennessee there aren't that many options left for the Vols to explore in terms of a big name splash.

one splash hire resurrected the program that has been dead for nearly 15 years.

Mangino would make a big splash.

Except Bama didn't publicly let offers be known like UT is doing. They have been turned down by at least 3 HC and an assistant didn't even want to interview. Bama offered RichRod and he actually accepted the offer in 2006

If we can't get a damn coach out of Louisville then I'm gonna freak the hell out! This is Tennessee not MTSU! I'm sick of this crap!

There wasn't one in 06-07 either according to Saban.

UT asked Smart to interview. Smart said no.

He didn't come on the market until the regular season was over. Everyone knows this.

That is not correct fwiw.

Hart specifically said in the Dooley firing presser that assistants wouldn't be considered.
