re: How is Bielema not a terrible hire...?Posted by piggilicious on 12/10/12 at 9:03 am to Hog on the Hill
i'm way past caring what lsu fans think of our hire (or pretty much anything)- they can't even decide if they like their own coach who's been there for years, why would we listen to any of their criticism of our coaching hire?

man it hasn't taken y'all long to convince yourself of this. I wish this name would have been floated on the board prior to the hire; that would be a thread worth bumping
It's reality. Who should we have hired that had a better resume? Name me someone. Seriously. Name someone.
Not sure if you've noticed, but top-level BCS coaches aren't changing positions. We're the only school whose poached a BCS coach in years from what I can recall. Every other school in the SEC has hired coordinators or up-and-comers. Fact. The last school who didn't, from what I recall, is LSU. And Miles' resume at that time wasn't as good as Bielema's is now.
Just have some consistency in your argument. I know that's asking a lot, though.

You've gotten so comfortable with the idea because you have no choice. He's your coach so you give him the benefit of the doubt and that's understandable. "Great" is a stretch though.
He does have a bigger Russell Wilson on the bench so maybe he'll have a good year

So you agree that Bielema is not a top-level BCS coach?

Wouldn't you have to have a top level BCS win to be a top level BCS coach?

Cowherd said it best. Before Alvarez and Bielema, Wisconsin is Oregon State. They just haven't realized it yet.
Arkansas has access to better recruiting and more $ for its football program than Wisconsin. :dwi:

do you disagree?
re: How is Bielema not a terrible hire...?Posted by Numberwang on 12/10/12 at 10:49 am to drexyl
We don't have the local recruits like LSU or Alabama or even Ole Miss.
Still, we have better recruiting areas closer to us than Wisconsin does. They are in a recruiting wasteland.

Arkansas is a lot better than Wisconsin. Arkansas is actually pretty good at turning out division I talent, there just aren't that many kids playing football in Arkansas compared to other places in the SEC. That said, the state generally turns out ten to fifteen solid Division I type players a year and that can provide a pretty good core to build around.
Granted, it isn't Louisiana or Mississippi, but it is a lot better than Wisconsin.

The guy has been nationally ranked almost every year and 3 times in the top 10.
His teams are going to their third straight Rose Bowl.
Stop acting like a know it all jerk.

Do you want me to explain this, AGAIN, you fricking moron?
MY qualifications aren't relevant. Obviously, I don't make these decisions. And what I think will work BEST doesn't mean that something else won't work better. Does it? Or are you too fricking gumptarded to differentiate between the two paradigms? It's not an either/or. Bielema can be a good hire even if he doesn't meet MY desires for a new coach.
But it's nice that you COMPLETELY fricking avoided the question. Who should we have hired. Name someone. Name someone with a better resume.

Who has made a better hire? Name a school. Stop being a pussy and name a school. Which school made a better hire?

So one Hog fan says that Brandon Mitchell could be LIKE Russell Wilson, in terms of the kinds of plays they could run, and that means he's going to BE Russell Wilson? I guess that means all LSU fans wanted Miles gone 2 years ago, then. Since, you know, 1 fan represents the opinions of an entire fanbase.
Once again. You're a fricking moron.

Actually, that's NOT what was pointed out, you mongoloid rantard devoid of reading comprehension skills.
What was pointed out, is that Arkansas pales in comparison to Louisiana. As do MOST states.
But, try to keep up here...Wisconsin pales in comparison to Arkansas.
Take a minute. Let it process. Maybe write it down. Flow chart, even.
Also, how old are you? I'm guessing between 13-15 or 57-89. Because SURELY someone in the prime of their life wouldn't be THIS fricking retarded.

MY qualifications aren't relevant.
And just because you did 'the best you could do' with the hire doesn't make it a great hire. It means there was a weak pool of candidates and you got one of the better ones available; again i like the hire. calling it great is a stretch unless you have low expectations. which you do.

I'm going to end this thread right here.
The majority of LSU fans said Petrino was a mediocre/bad hire when we got him back in the day due to him being from a "crappy" conference and failing in the NFL. Let's see how this works out.

now you'rejust making shite up. Oh and don't ever refer to HawgAlude as an Arkansas fan.

add to that Alabama, Mississippi, S. Carolina, Georgia, Florida & Texas and that's what i said.....
Arkansas has better talent than Kentucky and Missouri and that's about it in the SEC which is why I agreed with you (until you changed your mind) on the Arkie HC needing to be a great recruiter.
quote:So BB recruited at a weak state and was able to compete annually in a weak conference; so he'll defintely be able to recruit enough at an average state in the toughest division of the toughest conference in college football. I really don't see what could go wrong here with such a slam dunk of a hire.

You might have...majority did not. I was here, I remember. You have to wait it out but all things considered, this was a coup. We'll see later how it works out.

No, most LSU fans said Petrino was a good coach but was a sleazeball and ultimately hiring a guy that bailed on his team midseason would come back to bite you.
Well?
As for BB, I think he is a good hire, about the best guy who was available. The question for him, or for that matter any coach Ark hires is can they get enough of OOS recruits esp from Texas. If he can Ark will be fine, if not trouble.
