I don't replay games much anyway. Too many good games out there to play one more than once for me.
Then I would recommend DE: HR. I guarantee you'll love it. Character play style can be customized multiple different ways and the story is phenomenal.

Actions and choices are significant in Deus Ex.

That looks amazing

Based on comments I've read about the difficulty tho, maybe not for me. I rage enough playing FPS with friends. If I start screaming at AI kicking my arse, my wife will know I've gone full retard

It's difficult when you start. It is, however, the most fairly difficult game I've played. Every time you die, it's because you fricked up, not because the game is unfair. It's a lot of learning all of the enemies' attack styles and how to counter. It's a great combat system.

Has tons of amazing bosses, and one of the most enthralling worlds I've ever experienced in a video game. It's really amazing. You sound a lot like me when it comes to video games. Give it a shot.

All excellent choices that can be had for a good low price. Add Deus Ex and that will be an amazing list.

If you live in Laffy or BR I will let you borrow Dark Souls. It's one of those games that I think everyone should experience so I let people borrow it all the time.

I actually live right outside of Atlanta. I already checked Craigslist and Ebay (where I get most of my games) and a guy has Dark Souls for $15 near my office.

Also saw another listing for a guy who sold his xbox with about 40 games.

A few I looked at:

Deus Ex (probably grab that one)
Dragon Age
Prototype 2
Elder Scrolls 4: oblivion
Fable 3

Anybody have input on these games? I don't mind playing an older game that isn't quite aesthetically pleasing if the story and game play are great

Since there's a large lack of Japanese games in this thread (Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma both deservedly so though). I'll add some games that I loved in: Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Final Fantasy XIII (this is a love/hate one), Resonance of Fate, and Infinite Undiscovery.

I'd recommend them in that order. None are perfect, but do many things right and I enjoyed each of them.

On Dark Souls, it's really not that difficult but it is challenging and rewarding. There are few more rewarding games than Dark Souls when you're able to pull off a win against a giant boss with Brolaire.

Deus Ex - Great action RPG
Dragon Age - Some people love it. I didn't like it and I played the superior version.
Prototype 2 - Not really an RPG. Sandbox game with super powers.
Oblivion - I spent 80 hours on it and loved it. You should be able to get the Game of the Year with all the DLC for super cheap.
Fable 3 - A fun, buggy game. Like every Fable game honestly. Has some nice new gimmicks to keep it interesting after you beat the 'final boss'

I'm guessing Elder Scrolls can be played as a standalone game? I'd like to check out Oblivion and Skyrim but I'm not interested in any previous titles really. I don't even know if they are available on console

Each Elder Scrolls game exists in the same universe. Each story occurs a long time after the previous one. Having played many of them, it gives you a bit more knowledge, but in no way is it even remotely important.

I might recognize a name of an emperor or battle from a previous game, but that is pretty much it.

Scruffy is correct.

Think of it this way. You have one giant world with several countries. Each game revolves around one area or country.

The second is about Daggerfall, the third is in Morrowind, and the fourth takes place in Cyrodil (central theme is about Oblivion though), and the fifth takes place in Skyrim.

Deus Ex (probably grab that one) - One of my favorites from last year. I played through it 3 times
Dragon Age - haven't played it, but I've heard nothing but great things so I will pick it up for $10 over Xmas
Prototype 2 - haven't played, heard it's meh
Elder Scrolls 4: oblivion - the best elder scrolls IMO.
Fable 3 - I played Fable 2 and didn't like it very much

Deus Ex (probably grab that one) - One of my favorites from last year. /AGREE

Dragon Age - haven't played it, but I've heard nothing but great things /AGREE

Prototype 2 - haven't played. Played the first one and didn't like it too much.

Elder Scrolls 4: oblivion - GREAT GAME. Only downside is slight repetitiveness, but that is to be expected with large scale games like this. I spent over 120 hours on this game.

Fable 3 - Fable has been one of the larger game franchise flops IMO. Fable 1 was good. Fable 2 was disappointing. Fable 3 was bad IMO.

I watched some gameplay it seemed pc'ish to me. Like the character was following around an icon. Turned me off. Maybe it's just me

For $15, Dark Souls will probably be another one I grab. Worth a shot

I'd say Deus Ex, Dragon Age, and Dark souls could all be had for 50-60 bucks and would keep you busy for a long time. All great, great games.

Skyrim is just one of those games you just pick up and play. Little interest in the campaign. Just pick up and go kill things and collect stuff. Will get you hooked for a few days. Youll put it away. Then threads like this will pop up and you will get the itch to play again.

I haven't read the rest of the thread but

Western Style RPG = Dark Souls.
JRPG = The Last Remnant.

ETA: And after a quick read through of the rest of the thread I will agree with everything that has been said about Dark Souls. It is ridiculously difficult but none of your deaths are "cheap." It's also my favorite game for the 360, simply amazing.

Dragon's Dogma is another great one (although the minions voice acting can get very annoying). IIRC Capcom has confirmed that they will be making a DD sequel so this might be a good one to pick up if you're interested in getting into a series instead of just a stand-alone game.

There's a demo for Dragon's Dogma if you want to try it out. The game is obviously much better but you can try it to at least see if you might like it. I'm not joking when I say that I think it's the best game of the year so far.

Yeah I played it. Enjoyed it. I'm that, dark souls, and witcher is what I'm leaning towards. Maybe sky rim. I will never come close to finishing all that
