Almost everyone here cheers for a football team called the Saints and many are bitching about Pelicans?
The sky is not falling. Take a deep breaths and give it time. Pelicans will work just as well as Saints.

New Orleans Pelicans = New England Patriots in syllables. Doesn't seem to hurt them, why would it matter here?

Another team you could add to that list is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However I do realize that people tend to shorten their name to Bucs. Still, no one complains about the syllables in their name. All the bitching is because it's new and people arent used to it. They'll get over it.
