and still makes just as stupid decisions as JJ did.

lol, it isn't week 5 anymore. The guy had a breakout game against Bama and has played well ever since despite inconsistent receivers and oline play. He can flat out sling the ball.

JJ couldn't break 50 yards in 2 of his last 3 games and didn't break 100 yards in 3 of the last 4. Mett has thrown for 200+ in the last for and 250+ in 3 of the last 4 despite the drops and despite not having a Randle type receiver.

We're trusting Mett to throw the ball 30+ times a game now for a reason

Mett has zero pocket awareness. And it appears he has zero peripheral vision. bad combination. If he had either with just a little mobility he could be great. Unfortunately, I dont believe either is obtainable.

Think Mett needs a lot of work to make it in pros. As a fan, hope Krags can get him coached up on the clock deal. Maybe Moffit can help with speed???

Again, why do LSU fans anoint their own to superstar status when nobody else has these opinions? PLEASE BE OBJECTIVE, thx...

He will start realizing that weak side pressure from the D is on his list of things to improve on.

Too late! He made Alabama suffer badly every time they brought the weak side pressure. You can check that one off your development list. I was not a Mett homer at the beginning of the season, but I wouldn't trade him for any college QB right now. Manziel is exciting, but we'd never go undefeated with that yo-yo.

One thing I love about TR is how poor some are at talent evaluation. Several times I've seen superstar talent at LSU and seen it underestimated here. PP7 for example. Everyone thought he was good, but go back to last year, and some Ranters were saying Mo was a better corner. (Hint: Mo-very good; PP7-NFL all-time great). TM7's supposed lack of coverage skills is another (Hint:he is extremely good in both zone and man). Now Mett (Hint: he's going in the top 5 of the draft next year). Mett has very good pocket awareness. He is certainly a little clumsy, but he already moves well to extend the pocket. I think many people watch Bree's every week and are making an unfair comparison.

"When he feels pressure, he doesn't really adjust."

I really believe that he made strides in this area this year. Still plenty to work on, but he started to step up in the pocket rather that always just being a sitting duck for DE pressure. These are obviously just my observations, but his overall play clearly improved and I think it was largely because of increased pocket awareness, which allowed him to get balls off.

I read yesterday that Mett threw for only 570 yards in his first 4 SEC games but for over 1000 in his last 4 SEC games. I like the trend.

I'm with the OP. Mett will be the best pocket passer in the college football next year.

I like him as our QB

Me too, but...

If he can get some knowledge and do some foot speed drills, he could make money in the pros.

He doesn't need speed to make it in the pros, just pocket presence as already mentioned. I also believe he needs more core strength to shrug off arm tackles.

The kid is tough

Yes

and has a demeanor for a QB that I've never seen before.

He seems to be indifferent in the pocket sometimes like he is playing 7-on-7 with no rush. I think this is why he holds the ball too long and gets sacked easy.

His football IQ will get better

Yep, lets hope he progresses better than the previous 2 starters. But I already think he has better knowledge than them.

It's amazing to me that he has taken 99% of the snaps this year and didn't get dinged up too bad. Did I say he is tough?

yep

He ain't scared either.

I think he should be more aware and focused, and maybe a little fear would focus him more on the rush, but I know what you mean.

quote:

He is slowly impressing me little by little and I just hope his foot speed improves so he can be even better. The sky is the limit for him. I hope he's a millionaire after he leaves LSU even if it is holding a clipboard.

I like your attitude and Mett probably likes your last sentence.

My evaluation for Mett's progress is simple.

1. Improved footwork in the pocket, he needs to step up and slide into throwing lanes better. This is evidenced by his mediocre pocket presence and his uncanny ability to have balls tipped despite being 6'6" tall. He also throws off the back foot sometimes and that seems to cause overthrows especially on deep routes.

2. Core strength and leg strength for obvious reasons. QBs shouldn't get too big in the upper body like Brady Quinn or Tim Tebow because it screws up the throwing motion and range of motion of the shoulder, but lower body strength and core strength are assets for keeping plays alive by breaking arm tackles in the pocket and standing in to deliver a ball with a defender on you.

Mett has good football IQ that will continue to improve as he matures and plays more, and his arm strength is better than many NFL starters. IMHO, If he can improve on my two criteria he will be a first or second rounder with a HUGE season next year, and possible Heisman candidate. If he continues to stand in the pocket looking indifferent and he doesn't gain any strength in the core and legs, he and LSU will have a similar result next year... very good, but not great.

Lets all hope Mett gets the job done during the off season so we will all be happy, happy, happy.
