I think he was assured a real chance at the Alabama job in a few years.

Muschamp proved he can coach. We all assume Smart can as well.

Sal Sunseri finally get the Pitt job. He's only interviewed for it four times over the years.

You serve under Saban as DC for 5 years you have instant credibility.

What, you would be an AD that passes on Smart? Yea, the recycle of head coaches mentality blows my mind.

fricking Kirby Smart would be a good HC IMO

You can't go public with CIW anymore because the CIW has the same recruiting restrictions as the HC. That said, it's clear he was given reassurances. I've said all along that if he leaves it would be b/c he grew impatient or felt that his shot at the Bama job was no longer there. I think he's been told he's the primary candidate, which is what he's thought since end of 2009.

The word last year was Ole Miss was deciding to hire Freeze or Smart but decided to hire Freeze because they thought Smart considered it a stepping stone job.The longer he stays there the more likely he will take Saban's place as head coach.

I Agree!

Mal Moore retires and Saban becomes the AD and Smart the HC..
