Honeybadger as a draft pick

I'm not a big fan but knowing that many here are this might be the most extensive scouting report/story on him that I've seen- HERE
I agree strongly with his conclusion-
In the end, Mathieu will likely not be drafted anywhere close to where he hoped and many expected after his outstanding 2011 season due to his size, bad technique and character concerns. I would expect him to be selected on the third day of the draft and will need to make sure his off-field issues are behind him if he is going to succeed in the NFL.
-4th or 5th Rd if he reeks of Jamarcus-ness in interviews.

He doesn't fit the mold of a Loomis/Payton player. Period. Will not EVER be a saint. EVAR!!

Maybe it's just me but I don't think there's anyway he lasts past the 3rd or middle of the 4th at the latest. I mean I just can't imagine there are that many players that would go ahead of him. Janoris Jenkins went in the early second and he was nowhere near the playmaker HB is. I mean look at Bruce Irvin. I know he's a pass rusher, but the dudes story is about damn near the same as Mathieu but probably worse and he was drafted in the middle of the first round. Like I've said in another thread, I think people look at him in a vacuum and don't compare him to the others that are coming out. He was a damn Heisman finalist as a defensive player.
I guess I'm really hoping we pick him up because he fits a dire need here. You couldn't convince me wouldn't be worth risking at the lowest a late 3rd round pick

I think he was a 2nd round guy if he had left after this year. I think he will be more 4th round now. He is a dynamic playmaker and could be a great nickle guy/rover in the league.

irvin was an unbelievable stud athlete with a lot of production in college rushing the passer
jenkins was a really good athlete with decent corner size and top-notch coverage displayed in college
they're not really comparable to TM7. he's small for a CB and likely won't measure out as an elite athlete
his playmaking ability was done via outlier plays, and i don't think you can consistently rely on that production.

I agree as long as his work outs are good.
His off field issues will hurt him some, but it is not a deal breaker. There are plenty of guys in the NFL that are fans of the sticky icky.

also to the topic, Why wouldn't someone take a runner on him as a safety? have him add a few pounds and he's about the same size as Troy P.

he'd have to add at least 20 lbs
and i don't think he runs a sub 4.4 now, let alone with 20 more lbs on his frame

he has great football instincts. He will not be a cover corner in the NFL, more a hybrid S/Nickle CB. His size hurts him way more than the pot issues. If he played and had another great year for LSU, he would have been late 2nd maybe, more likely 3rd. now 4-5 would be my guess, unless he tanks workouts.

i agree. i didn't think he was an elite draft pick long before he was kicked off of LSU
he just screams one of those "amazing in college, but doesn't have the physical ability to do that in the NFL" guys
and that isn't a criticism. i'm not being negative about him. that shite just happens a great deal

You might be right, but my only point is the off field stuff doesn't hurt him the way people think. might have cost him a round or 2, which is less money, but physically limitations are a bigger deal.

he didn't do anything that bad
i'd imagine the year off would be a bigger worry than the drugs, but both pale in comparison so his physical ability

Always worried about TM in the pros. I always knew he would be a fine college athlete with at least an nice first contract right out of college after he had 4 years of hustle on the field.
Without four years of college, I think his size will be too much of a hurdle to clear for him in the pros.
Same feelings on the Heisman trophy winner this year.

It wasn't what he did...it was knowing the stakes, he couldn't control himself given the opportunity to get the big picture...which probably concerns people. Give him $$$ and you worry.
That said, I agree with where he fits in the NFL is the real problem.
He comes across as the really good "all-purpose" in college player who doesn't have a specific position in the NFL due to size and skills.
LSU puts athletes all over the field and since the NFL doesn't have a rover play-maker position - he has a certain ceiling.
