Been toying with the idea.... Wanted to see if anyone else has done an AR in 9mm. Would really like to do one and SBR it.

Send in the paper work to the ATF to allow a shorter then normally legal barrel length.

SBR = short barrel rifle.

In all honesty, if I were to SBR an AR15, I would keep it 5.56. If you want to get a short barrel 9mm, I would look at some other setups that have more compactness.

Or you could go .45 and get a Kriss Super V

I really like those kriss rifles but they cost more then I'd be wanting to spend.... The main reason I'd pick 9mm over 223 is that I already have a full sized AR in 223

I thought about building a 9mm AR, but I think I am just going to pick up a high point carbine for two fiddy and beat the piss out of it.

build an AR pistol if you want a 9mm. Although it would be nice to have a full size 9mm so I could shoot it in the local indoor range.

Buy an AR pistol upper and have your lower stamped as an SBR. Then you can use the same lower for all your uppers.

I thought the 9mm lowers use a standard ar lower with a magazine block to accept uzi magazines. If this is the case SBR the lower and just change out the upper...

Questions #1:

Why? Plinking, home defense, or just the fun factor?

You can do that, or get a dedicated 9mm lower.... From what I've read the dedicated 9mm lowers are much more reliable.

For the cost of a 9mm AR set up, you'd save loads of money just getting a Hi-Point carbine, or step up to a Beretta Storm.

Now if you're planning on doing hard core dynamic entries, that may be another story. Maybe the AR platform is justified.

Now when you have no logic to truly justify it (or any other weapon), then it's the "fun factor" and the "fun factor" is a very valid factor that has justified more than one of my purchases.

If I buy one of those carbines it takes a the fun of building one out.... If I was going to buy one I'd probably try to find a keltec since they take glock mags .. It's nothing I'm planning to do in the immediate future... Just something I've been thinking about
