Deny it/whine about it all you want.
But if you put your bias aside (which is literally impossible for a large segement of LSU fans), you'll see that LSU is in the right bowl.

There are six candidates for the top 5 SEC bowls this year.
- BCS bowls not an option (2 slots)
- Outback Bowl always takes an East team (1 slot) (FTR-I agree that LSU should just tell Outback representatives "no thanks" when they want to attend a game)
- Capital One has UGA (1 slot) UGA played in SEC CG so they should get the nod (even with the West Division selection trend here, they deserve it by their regular season record, possibly even a higher bowl)
- Cotton Bowl chose ATM (last slot) This is the only one that's really arguable, but taking off the purple & gold glasses it's pretty easy to see why they would be chosen.
There are a list of reasons why, but the main is national exposure at this moment.
ATM has a natural tie to play OU through old Big12 history. (minimal impact but it's there)
ATM has a probable Heisman trophy winner. (significant impact)
ATM travels just as well as LSU.
And most of all, ATM is much more fun to watch this year.
Deny it all you want, piss & whine...but LSU is not fun to watch for some LSU fans. They're really not fun to watch for non-LSU fans (you hear it around the country all the time & it's true, whether it's right or wrong to factor that in).
ATM has one of the if not THE biggest win in college football this season.
Yes LSU beat ATM, but we all know that logistically that can only be factored so much. (UGA beat UF, etc.)
Yes ATM is in it's first year in SEC. But that's a weak reasoning IMO.
- Next logical bowl is the Chicken Bowl

Does the situation suck for LSU? Yes.
Should style points matter? Debateable
Should excitement factor matter? Of course (bowl games are pure entertainment...nothing really at stake)
But put your frustrations aside for a minute & you'll see there are more reasons for the Cotton to pick ATM than LSU. It'll allow you to accept it easier.
BTW-I hate ATM & hope they get donkey punched.

Two options:

Johnny Football- one of the most exciting players in college football.

LSU- inconsistent, pathetic, and boring offense.

Now pick.

Why does any of this matter more than a team's actual resume?

I'll hang up and listen.

So bowl selections should be based on the team with the more flashy offense? Got it.

My wife thinks it should be based on the cuteness of the head coach and the team colors. I'm sure some rantard on here thinks the same.

Because bowls don't care about resumes, it's all about TV viewers. Always has been.

spoiled bitch fans who think we should be NC bound or bust< fans who actually support their team through thick and thin. (aTm)

---I love LSU, but our fans are pussies and insecure.

The bigger factor though is this: JFF>toss dive.

Because bowls only care about viewer ratings, not resume. A lot more people nationwide will want to watch a probable heisman winner instead of an anemic offense

I agree and stated this repeatedly yesterday. LSU didn't get rooked, it's where it should be considering the circumstances.

JFF adn A&M have just as good a resume as LSU does. they did something that nobody in the SEC seems to be able to do.....beat Bama. WE had to invite another team to show us how to beat Bama.

The rason LSU is not in the Cotton Bowl is because it would create 4 trips in 3 years. End of story. It's about maximum dollars.

Assuming that LSU & ATM begin the selection process even, tell me what LSU is more deserving (I've given my list).
A head to head win can only mean so much. You'd never be able to do that with every bowl & you know it.
And sorry, but ATM's win over Bama is much more impressive than any of LSU's wins (the fact that it was a win, the manner in which they won)....yes, style definitely matters in bowls selections.
Deny it all you want.
Bowls are purely for entertainment purpose (it's a selection & you're not really playing for anything).
You can't possibly deny that ATM is head & shoulders more exciting to watch for an unbiased casual fan.

Well shite, why didn't the Cotton Bowl pick West Virginia if only ratings matter!

I mean JFF vs. Geno Smith. Imagine the fireworks!

The Big 12 had no problem sticking it to Texas after the BCS standings became apparent. If the SEC office ran the Big 12, Oklahoma would have fallen to the Sun Bowl or whichever shitty bowl game they are aligned with.

THIS HERE is the answer coupled with the fact that aTm is excited and we're too busy worrying about Bama as if we're auburn fans.

JFF>toss dive. deal with it LSU nation.

Here's our resume:

We let Towson hang around
We let a horrible Auburn team hang around
We let a horrible Ole Miss team hang around
We let a horrible Arkansas team hang around
We even let Mississippi State hang around for a little while.

We lost a stinker to UF
We lost the game we played best in all year - Alabama
Our "signature wins" were AtM and USCe - both of which came down to the wire

We have come alive on offense but have seen the defense regress.

I think UGA, UF and even AtM deserve better bowls than us. If you don't agree, you are kidding yourself.

Jesus Christ, they were both original teams in the SWC going back to the early 1900's. Minimal impact on the decision my arse. Fans of both schools would love the match up.
