if the SEC Championship game goes away or if the loser gets knocked out of the playoff i.e. Georgia this year was 3 until SCG then 7.?

So, then they pick the top 4 after the game is played - you are better off to finish 3 in the SEC than 1st or 2nd, assuming 3 place in the SEC gets you in the playoffs and 1 and 2 is assured one will be knocked out...3rd place is like drawing a "by".

that is the problem with this chicken garbage rule that only 2 teams from each conference gets a BCS birth. They should take BCS out of the National Championship. And BCS bowls start with the 3rd ranked team.

Freaking Northern Illinois in the Orange. REALLY

I never though about that. So, if the playoff was out this year, Alabama and Florida would be in the 4 team playoff but Georgia would not be, correct? Neither would either of the Pac 12 division winners but Oregon would.

technically a committee will be doing the selecting, so the formula/ranking isn't the determining factor. However, they could look at the SEC game as a de facto play-in game. I doubt they would have included Florida in a 4 team pairing this year...I mean 3 weeks ago they were lucky to beat ULL. I'm guessing the selection committee would probably have ND, Bama, Oregon and KState (possibly Stanford over Oregon but they lost to ND already).

also, it's "bye"

they did a mock committee and i think it was

Bama/UGA winner
KSU
Oregon
Florida

it would have shaken up somewhat like that

Fine with that.

A mock 8 team with top 2 getting BYEs would be very interesting to see as well.

Huh?

If 2 teams get byes, you then end up with 5 teams left after round 1.

Not to hijack but just thinking about the existing bowls. Will those still have the conference tie ins? I am guessing so.

Orange Bowl
Rose Bowl
Fiesta Bowl
Sugar Bowl
Champions Bowl-Big 12 vs SEC champs
Cotton Bowl

I know they will rotate the top 4 teams amoungst those bowls and then the ship game will be up for bid and can be played anywhere after the first year. I think the first year will be up for bid in the existing BCS bowls.

TIA

Ha whoops.
I didn't think that through.

How about top 7 teams, and #1 gets a BYE?

That works

Yes, that is my point, unless this is/was addressed conference championships will be like wild card games for the top two teams and finishing third will be like drawing a "bye". It would be like an upside down playoff system.

You really need to learn how to use the quote function. You are working too hard man. You don't need to type the lines manually.

Here goes:

1. Hit 'Reply' and the new window opens.
2. Then select the text you want to quote in the message below and while it is selected, click on the quote button on the right side.
3. Voila!

Orange bowl will take acc champions and then choose from highest ranked sec, big10 or nd. Which ever team is the highest ranked and not going to the national semifinals. I also find it interesting that the Orange can avoid a remacth from the regular season and take the next highest ranked out of big10, sec and nd if they choose to do so. Also if the ACC champs are in the national semifinals then they can take the next highest ranked acc team. This works out well for the sec imo and gives sec another shot at a bigger bowl.

So im thinking if the rankings were just like this in 2015, LSU would be playing FSU in the orange bowl. But we may also have been able to get sugar if uf was playing in the semifinals. Not sure how that will all work out.
