The SEC, the first conference to have a conference championship game, should be the first conference to do away with the conference championship game. Once college football goes to a playoff system, playing this game will only weaken the resume and rankings of one of its teams. This year, without the SECCG, the SEC would have had 3 of the 4 teams in the playoffs. With the SECCG, we would only have 2. I expect that every year, the SEC, by playing the SECCG, will be knocking one of its teams out of the playoffs.

What ya think?

Georgia would have been left out even without the SECCG. Their resume was bad.

Florida and Alabama would have been the same two SEC teams.

If the playoffs were this year, the sec would send all 4.

I agree 100 %. complete horseshite. IF they are going to make you be the winner of your conference to get into the 4 team playoff they will have to make teams like Notre Dame join a conference and they will have to force all conferences to have a championship game.

They need to go to an 8 team playoff and take 1-8 in my opinion.

Is it a committee? I thought it was based on top 4 teams.
Yeah, if its a committee, SEC hatred overrules.

They should go to a 10 team playoff and make the conferences have championship games. SEC, Big10, Big12, Pac12, and ACC champions have auto bids if within top 15. Top 6 ranked teams in BCS get a bye, 7 plays 10, 8 plays 9.

this....bigtime. should have been done many years ago. the top eight conferences determined by power rankings send their champion seeded by final bcs-like rankings.

if the #2 SEC gets left out for the MAC champ, what does that solve?

Championship games don't mean anything (except money) becasue the conferences have no balance. The big 10 had a 5 loss Wisconsin in its championship game, the Big east is a joke,...

The only way we should continue to have a conference game is if only division games count for division championship. Unequal cross divison scheduling makes getting to the championship unfair.

Too late, Big 12 already dumped its championship game. Look, there is no way the ptb will ever let the SEC or any other conference flood the playoffs.

Gary Danielson had an idea last year that seemed legit.

Use current bcs system, but take top 6 teams for a playoff.
The top 2 seeds get a bye, however the top 2 seeds must be conference champions.

Example: last year it was 1lsu, 2bama, 3okstate
Lsu and ok state would be top 2 seeds with byes in this event.

No, the Big 12 went down to 10 teams, that is why they don't have a conference CG
