But really, I'd settle for an OC who can get LSU's offense into the TOP frickING 100 for starters.

So you would be happy being Baylor?

Well, you are definitely showing why this can't be discussed rationally.

Precisely. The anti-miles faction can't deal rationally with the facts that Miles is the most successful coach in LSU history, and one of the most successful coaches in the history of the SEC. That isn't to say I haven't had my moments of frustration with him. But when you step back and look at the big picture, things actually look pretty good, in fact better than they have ever looked. It is the failure to acknowledge that for 8 years, LSU been the best it has ever been and is counted among the most elite programs in the country that is irrational.

It isn't irrational to want to see improvement in the offense, but to fail to acknowledge what the man has accomplished and where he stands in the history of LSU and the SEC is. Criticism from arm chair coaches is part of the game. It is the undeserved vitriol against the most successful coach we have had in over 100 years that is irrational.

Why, because you can't deal with facts and history?

It wasn't the "anti Miles" faction I was talking to.
Apparently you didn't read the post.

Some of you worship the man. Seriously. He runs a very good program, but it's impossible to have a rational discussion with you folk.

No worship here, but I am not afraid to acknowledge that he runs, not just a good program, but one of very top programs in the country. It is less the fact that folks criticize (I have done so myself), but that some folks attack him at every chance, and to think the solution is to fire him is ridiculous. I doubt that any one of these harshest critics have come anywhere near the level of success that Miles has experienced. The vitriol looks pretty silly considering the record.

I got the reference, but you were the one who missed who was being irrational.

Maybe we should start with the fact that the original premise was flat wrong and out of touch with the realities of bowl scheduling under the current system.

Idiots who think everything is either one extreme or the other are highly irrational. It's impossible to have a discussion with anyone who immediately jumps to conclusions.

Very few people want to fire him. The problem is you folks lump any criticism in with this bunch.

No. Because you use the same moronic Baylor argument that several other posters have used. Apparently, you think that if the offense improves, we become Baylor. So, you're either an idiot or a troll. Pick one.

re: Highest ranked team to not play in January!

Unless I missed it in this thread, no one has said they wanted Miles fired. Someone asked what they wanted done, and the guy said get an OC in that could put our offense in the top 10.

Then you make your Baylor comment.

Let me ask you something.

If we ran a more aggressive offense(pro-style) and had a top 20 offense, do you think John Chavis would all of a sudden forget how to coach defense and we would lose more games because of it?

I think LSU would be trading NCs with Bama. You're always going to have turnover, injuries, but our O hasn't come close to being really good since '07. You can say players gotta execute all day long, but if they are consistently not executing then that's a coaching problem. New players have come through this system and have consistently not executed. Coaching has stayed the same.

Again. I don't want miles fired. I respect the guy. 10-2 is a really good year and I will enjoy it. But sometimes a little criticism is okay. This board is so crazy Bc it's bombarded with negativity and there are some people that just want to have a rational FB convo and can't due to being called names.

And I do understand Coach Les Miles is the best coach in LSU history.

RogertheShrubber's got it right. His PoV isn't irrational or overly emotional and I agree with what I believe he is saying entirely. Miles is great and the team is great, but we've let several opportunities slip by, the majority of which appear related to conservastivism on offense. I enjoyed watching Miles open up the playbook some later in the season and watching Mett develop into a pretty decent QB. I hope that this continues this next year and Miles takes his foot off the break, but due to my recent observations of a continually bland offense, I'm not entirely confident that this will happen and I believe that this is detrimental to maximizing the potential of the excellent LSU teams.

It worked out to being pissed on by our most hated conference rival, which pretty much negated the "conference championship." I was very excited, right up to that point. And - wow - it was just lifeless. Usuall, even in a loss, there's some consolation to be taken in a game - good plays, fought hard, etc. Nope. Not this one. Just laid there like a corpse getting fricked by some paramedics.

But it's cool. We're back to losing 2 games a year again. Order restored

You sound like a bitch.

We have a great program but may be letting several potential championship teams slip away. I'm happy with where LSU stands in the college football world but just want to see the hammer fall again, and I know these teams have that potential.

Sounds like you are doing the lumping. I don't believe Miles is above criticism, but an awful lot seems based on something other than rational assessment. And there have been a number of posters who have advocated firing, which is just stupid. If you want to rationally criticize, fine (as in trying to have co-defensive coordinators- bad idea), but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. And don't exaggerate. For example LSU was no. 14 scoring last year, even without a solid QB. But some of the comments made it sound like we didn't score a point all year. The NC game was bad. Miles shoulders the blame, but it looked like Jefferson was on vacation, the defense was stout, but had no help from the offfnse, and I still give Miles the benefit of the doubt on not playing Lee. Perhaps we will never know the full story on that.

It wasn't the offense that lost the Bama game this year. The offense did show improvement, but we struggled with a banged up and patched together o-line for much of the season. Given that and a first year starter at QB, 10-2 isn't bad. In fact, the record exceeded the expectations of quite a number of folks on this board. I think had Bama come in and beaten us by a couple of touchdowns, there would be less noise. We came closer to winning than many expected, including me, and that makes it tougher to get over.

Bottom line, criticism is not out of bounds, but it needs to be tempered with the reality that LSU is in the best period of its history, and Miles is primarily responsible for that.

Unfortunately you can't say anything without being labeled a negatiger, which has lost all meaning.

But yeah, that game still sticks, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to know why the offensive game plan was scrapped at game time.

If I were sober, I'd totally have posted that.
