What's your best memory of hunting or fishing?

I can't think of one that really stands out over another, but two that do stand out are fishing in Maine with my dad, and calling up my first turkey. I can still hear him drumming ten yards behind me.

I'm sure this thread has been done plenty, but I don't really care.

A fairly recent memory was last year none of my friends wanted to wake up and come hunting one morning. And it was a clear calm day and not very cold so I took my five year old to the woods to hunt a timber hole. The mallards were everywhere and seven minutes after shooting time we four greenheads and two woodies. The look on his face was priceless and from then on he begs to come hunting every time I go.

Pretty sure it was the morning I killed my first deer with my dad. I actually killed 2 because we thought I had missed the first one. Great memory that I will always cherish.

Good man. Hopefully he's hooked for life.

That's awesome. I'll never forget killing my first deer sitting next to my dad.

Back in highschool some friends and I hunted public land off the white river in Arkansas and killed 24 green heads in a driving snow storm. Without a doubt the best.

2nd my cousin and I hunting our place outside of Lubbock tx. Walked up to a canyon and threw a rock down in it. He kills a 200inch muley that jumped up from behind a cedar bush

I'll also never forget the morning my BIL and I caught over twenty redfish over slot before nine. The first time I hooked a tarpon is pretty vivid too, despite the fact it was a baby.

Definitely my first deer kill when I was with my dad. He was a proud father and I was a happy camper!

My best hunting memory is probably the first time I hunted flooded timber in Arkansas County, AR. We shot our limit of mallards both days, and 2 of them were banded.

My best fishing memory is fishing the indian mounds on Toledo when I was about 12. A front was literally minutes from coming through. The pressure dropped and I caught 5 keeper bass in 6 casts. The last fish weighed 5 lbs which was the biggest bass I had ever caught.

One of the best has to be taking my 10 yr old nephew to get his first buck. Several others that I can think of when I was a small child with my dad.

Sitting in the stand with my dad when I was 8. Shot my first doe with his .270. Made a horrible shot because I was so nervous. My dad had my 30-30 lever action and knew I made a bad shot. He saw it go down, and said we had to wait. 30 min later he gave me my 30-30 and we went look. 20 yrds away I saw the doe still alive. He let me prop up on his leg and told me to take my time. He let me have my first sip of beer at the camp when we were cleaning it. Will never forget it

My first deer with my dad. Sitting in the hay loft of an ancient barn. My first rabbit hunt with dogs, with my dad, grandpa and all of the uncles and old timers that are long gone.
Last weekend, my dad took myself and my 3 boys(6, 4, 2) to a fishing pond. The boys caght 78 bream in about 20 minutes. "I got one!" echoing across the pond, it was great. Hopefully one day they will tell their boys about that trip.

My PaPaw taking me on my first quail hunt and he went with my dad and brother and I on bream fishing trip once and I cut my thumb really bad. He helped me bait my line after that and I caught almost double what my dad and brother caught. He and I won that fishing contest easily.

Got to take my 5yr old on his 1st duck hunt last year. He still talks about it.

I think every moment I've shared with my Dad in the woods and on the water are the best. If I had to pick one time, it would be my first bow kill. I was 13 and he bought me a new bow so I could hunt with him. He'd been now hunting a couple of years and hadn't killed one yet. I was in a climber a couple hundred yards from him and killed a doe at 12 steps 10 minutes after daylight. We didn't have cell phones in those days, so I walked through the woods happy as shite to get my Dad. He was pissed that I busted his hunt right after daylight until I told him I had killed. It was awesome!!

I just started fishing again this summer, it had been 13 or 14 years, so the good memories are few. Had been fishing basically in a fairly big farm pond the whole summer and down a good distance below you could see a swamp. My friends I fished with were too afraid to go down there bc of cottonmouths. But finally we got to get down there in August. We all find our own spot, I find me one and start casting and within 15 minutes had caught five 3-4lb largemouths. Now I know those aren't monsters, but that was the best fun I had fishing this year.

I think back on how much of an inconvienience I was was when dad would take me hunting.

One time I remember being cold and he gave me almost all his clothes to keep me warm. Still wasn't enough so he let me walk back to the camp. Wound up jumping an 8pt on my way back and he shot it.

Another time squirrel hunting and I had some of those pants with buttons for a zipper. Couldn't get the buttons undone fast enough and pissed myself. I didn't say anything and later when tired of walking he gave me a piggy back. When I got on his back he asked if I had pissed myself or if it was just the cold. Of course I lied and said it was just the cold maybe I should tell him the truth next time we go fishing. He'll appreciate it now, 20 years later
