Obviously we're all well aware that Conference Expansion has all been driven by revenue and TV markets.

I've been trying to think though, and can't come up with an Expansion move that has had a positive impact on a league from a quality of play, or fan interest POV since the formation of the BigXII and the SEC's expansion to 12.

At this point is the best case scenario for any conference expansion to get just a neutral effect on your actual product rather than a negative effect?

So A&M didn't add anything to the SEC?

Nebraska didn't add anything to the B1G?

TAMU to the SEC worked out pretty well on the field. As did Nebraska to the B1G.

Those are pretty dated now. I mean you could say the same with Cinci and Louisville to the BigEast in football and basketball over the last 10 years or so.

Both your example and mine are more recent than 1992, which is apparently the last relevant conference movement according to the OP.

A&M is a positive program for the league, but renders scheduling a mess. It messes with cohesion, and balance in the schedules.

The overall success of the A&M/Mizzou addition is going to depend on what happens when the league goes to 16.

Right now, a HS player could join a team, redshirt, stay though his senior year, and still never play every team in the SEC. That's not good for the league IMO.

the B1G probably is a positive. Brought the league to 12 and added a champ game.

The issue is not programs as I'm looking at it, but the quality and fan interest in your conference across the board. I don't think adding a good program just to add a good program necessarily means the product that the conference is putting out as a whole is improved.

So fans are less interested in the SEC now that A&M is here and playing LSU and Arky in games that mean something?

Florida St - Miami with consequences means less fan interest?

Traditional powers like Nebraska and Michigan squaring off doesn't draw fan interest?

A&M is one of the best fanbases in the SEC now.

Mizzou has a bigger fanbase than about half the SEC and better game attendance than five SEC programs.
