Hear me out
Neither QB may be elite any more, but a change of scenery might change that. And it would definitely help Drew Brees to go back to SD where he's familiar with the surroundings.
Throw in Norv Turner, one of the best OC's in the NFL, and I see it as a win-win for both teams.
Thoughts?

I wonder if Colts fans said the same thing about Manning after the game where he threw 6 INTs...
Some fans are too quick to let their emotions drive their opinions.
A single shitty game doesnt make an elite QB suddenly average. In fact, not even a single season would do it.
Lets see him turn in 2-3 consecutive mediocre seasons, then we can start talking about him no longer being elite.

You really might be on to something here. Brees loves the West, Rivers loves the south (have ya heard the way he talks? That souther drawl? Sheesh). Rivers brother plays at LSU, Stephen! So Philip can be close to Stephen. Brees can get that scenery change, Philip can start fresh.
And, we'd get Norv, have you seen the neck on this guy?
