Think the player union would side with Pop on this one? If Stern does fine Pop, I do not see the NBA upholding this. Coaches would be livid.

The NBA can fine Pop and/or the Spurs at will with no appeal rights and the players' union can't do anything about it.

Now if the NBA forces Pop and the Spurs to play a player, then the union would have a complaint.

What a fricking joke. Just saw what was going on with this. How the hell can the league dictate how a team decides on who to play? Stern has to be fricking joking. I'm glad I don't follow that shitty league.

Fining the Spurs and/or Pop is basically forcing them to play players no?

yea its total BS.

never mind that the Spurs are actually playing a really close game with the Heat right now.

Its not like they aren't trying to win.

Yeah why this wasn't handled behind the scenes I don't know.

This just draws more attention to it and furthers the notion that the league dictates results

That's what I was thinking, since it deals directly with the playing of his players, this might become a players union situation. The average age of those 3 players are well over 33+ and they are in a tough stretch of games early in the season. I would think his players are more than fine with his decision to rest them.

Heat hadn't played since Saturday, Spurs played 3 other games since then.

If Stern wants good games, maybe account for the schedule.

I can see Duncan and Manu, but what's the excuse for Parker and Green.

Parker is what, 30? and Green has been in the league for only a few years. No way they need rest.

You really think they should force players to play?

Force coaches to play players?

Why?

WHY!

Steve Kerr telling the story of how Golden State "cashed in a whole month" to keep a pick. Not worthy of "substantial sanctions", I guess.

Isn't the point of sports to win?

No one should be "forced" to play, but why the frick are you a pro athlete if you don't want to play.

Plus, why are they royalty where they can fly home for the game? If you're gonna be a doucher, at least have the players sit on the bench....solid team unity

Duncan, Pop et al have won four rings. They know what they're doing.

I bet the guys that played tonight had a bunch of fun. It will be good for them in the long run to get these bench guys experience.

There is a reason the Spurs do well in the playoffs. They prepare the whole season and limit minutes, they've been doing it for a while now.

What makes this different than any other time a player is a healthy scratch?
