While everyone is rightly excited about the incoming freshmen we will have next year, I think we have some truly outstanding recruits from Coach Jones first class.

Shane Hammink, Malik Morgan and Corban Collins are all good players. Hammink and Morgan have the potential to be great. Morgan and Hammink are both playing the 3 position and Collins is backup point guard behind Hickey.

Collins has started two games, mainly due to Hickey's early suspension. Morgan has started three games and Hammink one. Corban has shown flashes of good play but has also looked like a freshmen more times than not. He will get better with more experience.

Malik Morgan started very strong and has shown a good outside shot as well as a surprising toughness around the goal on rebounds and shots. He started off extremely hot but has tapered off some the last couple of games.

The real surprise to some people (not me) has been Shane Hammink. The 6'6" European wingman has shown he can be a force. Great outside shot, smooth moves to the basket and a willingness to scrap for the ball under the goal has meant more playing time for him.

He started for the first time last game and is projected as a starter for tonight's game. In his last outing his stats were impressive 12 points (4-of-7 FG, 2-of-3 3PT, 2-of-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists. The best thing he may have done though was on the defensive end. He did a great job guarding their number one scorer.

Let's hope he can do that again tonight and that our other two true freshmen also play well and contribute. I, for one, have every confidence that they will.

Lsu really one of the better teams i have watched. I think they would give duke a good game. Don't be surprised at the end of the year when we have more than 22 wins.

This team won't end up with more than 15 wins, but they will at least be competitive which I think is an improvement.

Next year when the big guns arrive is when we'll see marked improvement. They just don't have the talent or depth to make and strides this year in the SEC.

Haven't seen them play yet, so can't comment. I will say from what I have read they are probably better then people think they are and it sounds like they could possibly win 8 or more SEC games if they get the right breaks. Maybe even get into the NCAA tourny. That being the case, who knows how much they can improve......

We would need to shoot lights out and Duke would have to be off of their game, big time (Did you watch them last night!).

Highly unlikly.

All that being said, I am very happy with the progress Coach Jones has made in such little time. The tigers look much better than last year, but are still going to experience some growing pains. Next year will be much improved and I think some of your projections will be more realistic.

Realistically, I think this team will win 17 in the regular season. Maybe another one or two in the post season depending on if they get the NIT bid.

I'd say about a 10% chance of NCAA tournament. About a 70% chance of at least NIT tournament. Either would be a good season for us.

Watch ever duke game for the last 15 years. That my college hoops team and i know what kind of team would give them trouble. LSU have some of the most versatile defenders i have ever seen on a team.

Come SEC play the wins will come down to Hickey IMO. We have a chance to suprise several SEC clubs, unlike last year. This early start can be contributed to new faces playing for a spot in rotation and some could flake on you once rotation is established. Very impressed with Jones and the new players so far. Cant wait to watch them tonight.

Even if in some parallel universe wherein SoS said something I disagreed with, the gods of basketball wouldn't allow it.

I can definitely see where you are coming from. I agree that some teams have had some miserable performances...

Look at Vanderbilt losing to Marist 50-33 as just an easy example. I still am not sure if this team is ready to compete for the top 5 of the SEC. I could see us ahead of a few decent teams but there are more good teams than just Kentucky, Florida, and Alabama.

Ole Miss is gonna be very good this year. Missouri is not quite where they were last season, but still a quality team. I find that it will be tough to pass up Tennessee also. Pretty good team they have over there.

Besides those, its up in the air for most of the rest. That could leave us in 7th but I still think thats gonna be a few spots too high. But if we limit our turnovers and start hitting free throws, this team does have talent. Just not there yet.

I was very impressed with their victory over North Carolina. Only watched the second half though.
