Good for him. Let's just hope his 'friends' don't move with him to wherever he's drafted.

Best thing for him is to get drafted by someone far away from LA.

I loved the guy on the field but I'm not sure anyone drafts him considering the last four months

If he couldn't stay out of trouble after getting kicked off the team that doesn't bode well for the future... all he had to do was stay clean for a year, re-enroll at LSU and then enter the draft 12-13 months from now

It will hurt his draft stock and some teams may take him off their board, but his "trouble" is minimal. If they didn't draft any one that smoked weed, half the league would never have been drafted. Ricky Williams QUIT to spend a year smoking weed and he got picked up. They don't care that much about weed. They still draft guys with violence related issues, they will draft a kid that's known to toke. There have been plenty of guys drafted with much worse records than Tyrann Mathieu.

I'd agree.

No fricking way anyone spends more than a 7th on him considering his legal problems and highly speculated drug problems.

It's one thing to bring him in as an UDFA on a minimum contract to see if he can keep his head on straight and be your returner / nickel back.

It's another thing to draft him, which means a slotted deal and foregoing another player, and hoping that he's gotten his head on straight.

no offense, but you guys don't know what you are talking about. There are guys that were drafted, high (no pun intended) with bigger problems than Mathieu. Just because the public doesn't know, doesn't mean the NFL scouts don't. When's the last time an NFL player was suspended for marijuana?

They'll take a chance on a guy with good measurables who gets in legal trouble or has drug issues, like Claude Wroten going around the 4th and Carl Nicks going in the 5th.

Honey Badger's short stature was already going to be a strike against him. Add in drug problems and legal problems and you've got him falling down pretty far on draft boards.

At the least Mikel LeShoure of the Lions, who got suspended 2 games for it earlier this year.

It happens a lot, but we don't really hear about it until it gets to second-offense and third-offense levels, which involve multi-game suspensions and entire season suspensions.

And, yes, players besides Ricky Williams HAVE gotten season suspensions for it. LSU's own Claude Wroten, for example.

I agree that smoking weed is not as serious of a crime as violent crime or most other off the field problems. I've even come around to the idea that legalizing drugs would be a good idea for our society as a whole.

But that's really not the issue. This is a maturity issue which has called into question TM's self-control and decision making in general. If the reason he was kicked off LSU was indeed drug use he had at least three positive tests - after the second of which he must have been warned in no uncertain terms that he could not test positive again or he would be kicked off the team and potentially lose his dream of playing in the NFL.

He smoked anyway, he was then kicked off the team and STILL couldn't stay out of trouble for the year he needed to (to rehabilitate his image and potentially get back into LSU). That description sounds like a guy who either has a terrible drug problem that he can't beat or a guy who has absolutely no maturity and can't do the simplest important things to keep out of trouble.
