I thought this would be fun. Go ahead and make your predictions now regarding who will make the most initially disappointing hire. You may be spot on or dead wrong.

Moreover, it will be interesting to see if the initial reaction holds true over time. As an example, most people laughed aloud when Ole Miss hired Freeze. He now seems like at least a solid hire for them. Conversely, most people laughed aloud when Auburn hired Chizik and, well, they're still laughing.

I predict the most initially disappointing hire will be made by....

Auburn.

That was tough because I think it is really possible that Arkansas hires a stinker also. I think Tennessee will be happy.

We certainly have a history of it. However, starting with the Dye hire, Auburn has gone good coach, bad coach. We are due for a good coach hire.

Until Jay Jacobs proves otherwise it has to be Auburn

Yeah but we are expecting a disappointing hire. Arky's had every big name coach reach out to them... so they say.

Good question:

UT:

If UT hires ANYONE other than Gruden (at this point) it will appear as a disappointment.

AU:

With the uncertainty about NCAA snooping around and Chiz being released so soon after BCS Championship (and, I get it...I really do), it may be tough to get a great hire at this time

Arky:

Might be a tough spot. But, they have money and recent success.

I'm going Auburn. But, only because of the reasons stated above. I like AU and wish them the best

It has to be Tennessee. Anyone other than Gruden will be viewed as a major disappointment.

Auburn has a history of pulling people out of a hat. Don't be surprised if they do it again. Tim Beckman IMO

to the delusional UT fans on this site? I agree. However, I still think they get a good coach whether the fans like it at first or not.

I think AU and Ark will be bigger disappiontments. I cant see that many good coaches wanting to jump in the ring with Miles, Saban, and Sumlin right now.

AU and Ark are fighting for 4th place for the next 4 or 5 years no matter who they get.

Auburn... JJ has a very shotty track record at this sort of thing.

At least with Arkansas JL has made good hires (BMFP and Anderson) no reason to think he will tank this one until he proves otherwise.

I agree with the Tennessee scenario... if they don't get Gruden the fanbase will have a meltdown. And it will be fun to watch.

Disappointing for the fanbase or worst hire? If its for the fanbase its UT no question. Gruden is going to break their hearts. I think Arkansas is going to make the worst hire.

Goes back farther than that.

Brown - Bad
Jordan - Good
Barfield - Bad
Dye - Good
Bowden - Bad
Tuberville - Good
Chizik - Bad
Petrino - Good

Unfortunately, I agree. As someone else said, until JJ can be proven wrong. Outside of Tuberville, every personnel decision he has made for football has been awful.

If Auburn hires Petrino which is likely and Tennessee hires Gruden which is unlikely then all we have is an integrity filled AD and some moron as coach.

Auburn. No top tier coach is going there right now. They may get somebody good, but it will be somebody from a lesser school who is willing to suffer through a few lean years before getting back on track.

Not sure, but UT hiring will be the biggest bust.

Auburn. The only quality coach I think that would take that job right now is petrino and he is a scumbag.
