He's a good player but not as good as everyone thought he would be. He's not worth all the trouble. The raiders are still a mess as well so this may be good for both parties.

He can't stay out of trouble. It's surprising me because he seemed like a gym rat and real student of the game at Bama. He's a straight up thug now.

He's also in the wrong scheme. McClain doesn't have enough sideline-to-sideline speed to be a MLB in a 4-3 scheme.

No he wasn't.
From my perspective, he's too slow to be a 4-3 MLB in the NFL. He would get left behind on stretch hand-offs.
He also had a nasty tendency to jump into the wrong hole against the run. He's attacking a blocker, in essence, while the runner is flying past him.
He could be successful in a 3-4, but it wasn't going to work in Oakland. Sucks he was a wasted pick, but them's the breaks.
