There are more important things than a National Title

Before I get destroyed, hear me out.
No team and/or coach is going to win a title every year. Bobby Bowden in 34 years at FSU only won 2. Yet he's praised as a legend. As fans our expectations are high and we expect the best; no excuses. However, it's more important to be relevant year in and year out. Bowden, for example, is great because FSU was in the fold all of the time. You should pay coaches based on the overall product. He deserves this raise and extension. I've never been some bias Miles fan, but people around here are just falling to new lows. I'm guessing most of them are too young to remember how the LSU program used to be. Les at times can make you insane, but leaving emotions out, he's done more than most college coaches even dream of. I don't think as fans we should lower our expectations, but we need to be more realistic about things. Les has taken what Saban built and turned it into a top 5 job. People wake up: LSU belongs in the same coversation as the USC, Bama, Fla, and etc programs. We've arrived; despite the fact that we won't win a championship every year.

Excellent example with Bobby Bowden.

Saban is on a great run right now, and those fans over there...Lord help him when he goes a few years without winning it all. LOL

How about an NC every five years? Can we get that? Every half decade? Or is that too much to expect as well?
BTW, I agree that LSU is a powerhouse now.

I agree. Just ask fans of Penn State.

I think Alleva was trying to say we're not on the roller coaster that some are, relevant one year and then going unheard of for three years or more, eventually building steam again. We're in it for the long haul, and should get there a lot.

Our fans would would fire Coach K for not winning championships every year. LOL
I just wish people would accept the fact that no matter the school, no matter the coach, you are more likely to not win titles than actually winning them. If that's the expectation then you would be considered a failure.
It's similar to baseball, a .350 hitter would be an all-star...but yet he failed hitting the ball more often than not...yet nobody would be screaming to let go of a hitter like that.
It's tough every time to see our Tigers lose and miss out on a championship, but it's going to happen more often than not. It will happen at Bama too

Exactly!!!! Look at Auburn now and what the will have to pay Chiz and his staff; all because they jumped the gun after one year. I understand in todays marketplace for coaches they had to do it i guess, but Alleva is doing the right thing here. LSU is a legit powerhouse program; and it's awesome. There are coaches that would actually fight to coach here. Some would probably prefer us over ND, Texas and etc. We're that good now!

you didn't mention that Les Miles goes way above and beyond most coaches by graduating his players and creating a mentoring environment that will affect our players over their entire life. i am proud that LSU graduates more players than ALL OTHER SEC teams (cepting vandy of course) and that he runs a clean program and understands what LSU football is to the state of La. Miles is the man to be in charge of our program, period.

Well, in the last 5 years there are only 4 teams that have claimed a title in the last half decade and we have to play the other 3 every year. So, 1 every 5 years may be too much to ask.

how about not lose to bama back to back

This is one of the most lucid posts I have seen on the Rant; at least in the past two days, and that's saying a lot with all the windbags blowing hot air on here. I'm glad we have some people that are level headed within the LSU fanbase.
That is very good example you gave with Bowden as he and Les are very comparable in style and success. The reason people are upset this year about being 10-2 instead of 12-0 is because of preseason expectations. While this year has not been as productive as I would have expected, the war of attrition has been bested by 10 wins which is remarkable.
LSU was in the hunt with casualties on the OL, Tyrann Mathieu being dismissed, 3 CB's transferring, Alfred Blue, Kwon Alexander out for half of the year, and the distractions of Tyrann with the SI article and arrest. And not to mention a new starting new QB with no starting experience in major college football.
I like to think of dominant programs being steady 9-11 wins every year. Then there will be a special year mixed in where there are several All Americans, several big time-pleasantly-surprising players, mixed with great chemistry that all clicks in one year. Guess what; LSU is there.
