My guess would be between 2-3, and that would put him around that 75K mark.

So I don't think that was b.s.

Yeah that would be more likely for total credit card fees. Not just MasterCard.

Oh and 2-3 in the restaurant biz...deserves a pat on the back too.

It is tough to see a company take 75k out of your pocket per year for credit cards though. But, it's almost impossible for most to live with out them. I wouldn't fathom opening one with out the option.

I realized that after I posted.

I wanna say that Mastercard was the highest though.

It pisses him off is my point. I'd hate cutting that check too.

75000 is around the fees on 2.5 mil or so in cc sales, I would imagine that cc sales are a large percentage of transactions.

snoball stand is one of the few I will still pay cash too
This, and some of the more suspect "ethnic" joints that either can't afford to mess with credit or are evading taxes, I expect to pay cash.

However, for a business as established as Jones Creek Cafe for instance, shame on them.

The business owner thinks that his customers will come anyway. Traditionally those owners are a bit older.

Pocorello's is a favorite of mine for instance. While I still go pretty often, I've passed it many times because I didn't have sufficient cash on me. I would have stopped in and purchased a number of things almost every time. Oh well I guess.

I agree. I haven't been in some time, but if I remember correctly, at one point he wasn't charging ATM fees?

Wasn't Jones Creek Cafe one of the businesses in Baton Rouge that was ripped off by an identity theft ring a few years ago? Some scammers got a bunch of credit card numbers from their registers. I used my debit card at another restaurant around that same time and someone stole my numbers and went on a shopping spree at a Wal-Mart in suburban Atlanta. That may be why they don't take credit cards anymore.
I was in San Francisco for my honeymoon a few weeks ago and I was amazed how many places there didn't take credit cards.

I pay Visa/MC/Discover/Amex 2.5-2.7% + .30 per transaction.

I think it's fine. Can be slightly inconvenient, but it's not that hard to get some cash. People are way too spoiled with credit cards nowadays.

I'm sure that Pocorello will explain his reasoning to you in a polite and civilized manner.

Not only does the credit card company charge the merchant a fee on the purchase, it also takes the fee from the total transaction, taxes which are not the merchants to keep just collect are also in the fee. Then it will take at least 3 days for the deposit to reach your checking account, so your money is tied up for a few days where cash can help buy supplies, or make payroll on time

FWIW - I've heard that Mandina's sales increased by 20%+ when they started taking credit cards a few years ago.

I wouldn't doubt it.

Denying people the ability to put it on their company expense card would deter a lot of lunch and even dinner guests.

The restaurants that stay packed and are relatively small like a Fluer De Lis and Adolfo's don't care. They are on a wait all the time anyways. It has a limited ability to increase their revenues.

That's not hard to believe at all. I wouldn't mind the prices reflecting the increased charges.

If you have to use a credit card to eat, you don't deserve to eat.

What? When I dine out, it's almost always on a personal debit card or one of my businesses' debit cards.

I don't own a credit card, but I almost never have cash. I have what's called a Check Card. You might have heard about them. See, they're this card that is connected to your bank account and you can swipe it like a credit card and it pulls money out of your account. Crazy, I know, but it works.

I buy pretty much everything with my credit cards. The rewards have worked very well for me.

Hate carrying cash.

I personally hate this. I went to a place the other day and did not see this Cash Only sign until after I ordered. I had to run across the street to go to the ATM. I have not problem being prepared in the future, but that first time is a pain in the arse to find out.
