Didn't LSU and Les Miles agree on a contract? Shouldn't that contract be abided by on both parts? The same goes for players (professional). They have a good year and want to renegotiate their contract. They have a bad year and "HEY WE HAVE A CONTRACT! Pay me my money". This is really something that has puzzled me for years. Just abide by the contract that you signed.

+1

Seems like this is the opinion of less than 1 percent of this fan base, sadly.

In theory, yeah, but when other institutions are willing to pay more maybe Alleva took it upon himself to offer more instead of having Miles ask. I do recall Miles asking for more comp for his staff and not being too concerned about his own comp a year or two ago.

If push comes to shove, I'd say, I don't want Les to leave and I'm happy with him as the LSU coach.

However, I'd be just as happy to see Alleva stand pat and call his (or Ark's) bluff on this.

I still can't believe Arkansas is doing this.

Does not work like that anymore. Contracts are heavily biased for the individual now who can get up and leave at will and leverages this for more money.

employee has right to ask for more money at any time. employer has right to accept or turn down that request for more money.

At least LSU has the hefty buyout clause if Miles decided to walk.

I believe in incentive base contracts. Structured correctly, and neither party gets screwed.

6 seasons with 10+ wins

most successful stretch in LSU history

that counts for a lot

Yes, but I think he gets some top heavy money from bowl games, SECCG etc. I think this dude is talking strictly performance which I don't know that I agree with either. At the end of the day, the coach isn't playing on the field. I'm pretty torn on this concept actually.

I agree in general. It's usually not as simple as 5 years and $20mil (or whatever). There are escape clauses for both sides in there as well. As long as the contract is made whole, then I don't have a problem.

Let's say there's a $5mil buyout for Les to leave (I don't think there is anymore, but just for an example). As long as he pays the $5mil, he's upheld the terms of the contract as much as staying the whole time. If LSU fires him, but owes him $10mil and pays him $10mil, same thing.

I definitely agree with the "sticking to your word" angle of the OP though.

Are you retarded? We are talking from 2011....not his career. 2011 is when he had his last extension/raise/whatever the frick you want to call it.

21-0 and a Peach Bowl is worth of a raise?
