So I started thinking yesterday that I want to get one of these bad boys.

Whats the minimum price tag i'm looking at? Can you buy ARs already built? It seems just about everyone buys the pieces and builds them themselves, which i'm not opposed to either, probably cheaper huh?

What about old AKs and such? how do you go about purchasing one of these bad boys?

Is there any special permit for owning an assault rifle (not sure if thats the correct classification here)?

good one? 750-800 maybe, now that they are trying to ban them they will be going up drastically

Not trying to be completely rude about this, but there are 100 threads about this if you will use the search button.

I think that is a lot of gun for the money for an entry level gun you could go buy or build cheaper but I don't think you could do it with the scope.

If someone has seen a better deal lately put it up...

Most shoot both 5.56 and .223 other calibers can be bought but normally require a different upper ~$500 and more expensive ammo. You can buy a .22 insert for less than $200 and then you will be able to shoot cheap .22 through the gun...

There are a few calibers available, but 5.56/.223 is by far the cheapest. Buying military surplus ammo is as close to cheap as you can get.

"Best and cheapest" don't really go together in my opinion. It all depends on what you plan to use it for. If you want to deer hunt with it, I would suggest 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel, but the ammo is also really pricey.

That PSA up there^^^ is one hell of a deal. If you want a good starter, that's it.

Most people build their own lowers and buy an assembled upper. It isn't necessarily cheaper, but it's cheaper in the sense that you get everything exactly how you want without wasting the factory parts.

i dont even know where to start when it comes to knowing what i want, or what options there are.

gun shops sell the parts in the area or is most of the stuff sold online? would like to get my hands on some stuff to get a feel for it.

Any stores in New Orleans yall recommend?

I have a RRA carbine length chambered in .556/.223 with multiple Magpul accessories and a Primary Arms multi-reticle site with magnifier, and it will drive tacks. It's the most fun of any of the guns I own, and I own ~25 or so. You will enjoy the shite out of an AR if you decide to pull the proverbial "trigger" in buying one.

If you want to build a lower, use the search tool or just go to the top of the forum in the FAQ thread that's stickied at the top of the page. It has the AR15 build thread linked.

You can buy it pretty much anywhere. Cabelas has them. Bass Pro has them. Many other gun stores have them too. It's simply bulk 5.56 ammunition. Very easy to find.

Nor should it! Lol. It does amaze me when people don't actually get it, though.
