If you are not used to high end restaurants and "odd" foods, Stella might not be for you.

I agree about not eating a full dinner at Dragos. Just do the oysters.

Happy Birthday in advance!

I agree with the above post that if you've never had an oyster, Stella's exotic menu and presentation may be overkill.

If you're going to be at Dragos, perhaps check out NOLA which is an Emeril restaurant just a few blocks away which is an upscale yet casual quality place. I've never had a bad experience there.

if you're staying in the Quarter and you want "high end", go to Sylvain or Domenica.

Or if you really want oysters, check out Casmento's, but they all taste the same with butter and cheese.

Take the streetcar to the corner of Carrollton and Canal, walk a block to your right, and hit up Wit's Inn for your free $25 birthday bar tab!

Go to Rampart across from Mahalia Jackson and get a great cocktail at Tonique.

I went to Mona Lisa on Gov. Nicholls and Royal the other night and it was exceptional. Although, probably not what you are looking for but great romantic date place hidden in quarter.

I've never had a bad meal at Irene's. You'd certainly need a reservation, though. Request the middle room if you are looking for quiet and candlelight. Request Daniel in the room by the bar if you're looking for entertainment.

I want to try some different things... I like things most ppl wouldn't.... I have looked at the menu at Stella several times and am intrigued..... I love ethnic food... Indian/ Greek/ sushi.... For some reason I have never had oysters... Don't know why.. Will talk to hubby and let y'all know what we decide... Was thinking emeril's but concerned it may be too commercial now

Not at all. It is a really fine restaurant with exceptional service, food and wine list.

Second, glass. If running a high caliber restaurant with excellent food, attentive but not overbearing service, and a deep and thorough wine list is commercial, I want every restaurant to be commercial.

Emeril's is an excellent restaurant. I'm not sure what you mean by "too commercial". I ate there in April and it was just as good as always and the service was excellent. The bbq shrimp app and the andouille crusted redfish or drum is outstanding in my opinion. It's well worth a visit.

I second Casamento's for lunch on Saturday. They also serve the chargrilled oysters. They aren't quite as good as some I've had, but plenty good enough. Try those, raw if you like and don't miss the fried. The soft shell crab there is also delicious.

For a fun New Orleans type meal, I'd suggest considering the jazz brunch at Arnaud's. It's festive and fun and the oysters Arnaud is a delicious app. Get the souffled potatoes and the trout amandine or menuiere for a typical New Orleans meal if you've not had that before. Great way to end a birthday weekend on NO.

Those are three of my favorite places to go when in NO, but I have many more faves.
