Once it opens, Mellow Mushroom will have local suppliers with local ingredients, a local pastry shop catering desserts and a local chef creating a special menu for the Oak Street location, Son said.
There could be worse chains to open.
Given the right location, MMs are typically fun places to get drinks with friends.

Yeah, I guess there could be worse options. I just wish a local restaurant would open in the location instead.

New Orleans loves having non-chains, but the problem is landlords want as much rent as possible. And while Mom n Pop Pizza can't afford it, a National Chain can and is willing to let that store be a loss leader to have a footprint in a thriving restaurant market.

Massage Envy for one. I think Humana may be taking more office space too.

Massey's Outfitters downstairs, Mellow Mushroom upstairs.
ETA: Massey's is closing the Severn location to open this one.

If BR had to suck it up and take an Applebee's at Perkins Rowe, Oak Street can deal with Mellow Mushroom.. Welcome to the free market economy.

Love me some MM until I read that they had the worst pizza for you. An average slice of their pizza had over 400 calories. Ive eaten 5-6 slices there before plus drinks.
Yikes

That would be awesome especially if they had yaks.
I think MM is gonna kill it on Vets, but I'm not to sure about Oak St.

I don't mind the mellow mushroom in BR. Decent spot w/ good beer selection and plenty of TVs. They aren't run by the strict rules of most chains and seem to have a greater ability to personalize their restaurant than most chains.
Yes, it's a chain, but it's no Applebees.

I cannot believe anyone would complain about mellow mushroom coming to their city. Seriously, their pizza is on point. Get the maui wowie next time. Legit

I do have one complaint about MM. The crust tends to be burnt on the bottom. The way I resolve it, is asking for extra cheese. For some reason, if the pie is thicker, the crust doesn't burn as easily and quickly as the thinner crust.
The salads are good, the hummus with tomatoes and feta is good and the beer selection is really good, especially for a pizza joint.
At the Brightside location, often times you'll see parents taking their kids in college and their friends to have pizza when the parents are in town.
I think they'll do fine Uptown and wish them the best..

I hear that corporate is going to bring down Michael Chua and Greg Talmage to perform for the opening.
