used bass boat saver before, liked it, maguire's also makes one

Buy you a bottle of 3M boat wax. Once a year job to protect it. In the past, I seen what those quick shine waxes do to a boat. The clearcoat will yellow over time.

My understanding is these are both spray on and wipe off cleaners and protectors. Is Maguire's the same?

yes but none of them really clean well IMO, more of a protector
