Over the past 5 years LSU has failed to live up to expectations. Whether or not the expectations were realistic is up for debate but the fact remains, we as a fan base have high hopes for our tigers. With that said, next season we will all put the same expectations on the team as we did this previous season. But, fail or not in 2013, LSU's future is looking very very bright. With two high profile QB prospects coming in January as well as a plethora of talent at virtually all necessary positions, LSU will once again reload and be a force to be reckoned with for the next 5 years. Keep your heads up and know that despite all the things we hate about Miles and the coaching staff, one thing remains constant, we are contenders. Eventually the pieces will fall into place once again and we will see the team we all love hoist the crystal fricking football.

How many other teams would like 10 wins 6 out of 8 years, an annual bowl game, a BCS every other year, and our other embarrassments of riches?

How did LSU fail to meet expectations last year? We were undefeated in the regular season (+unexpected)and finished higher in the final polls than preseason.

I agree. I expect at least one NC in a 4 year period.

Three years ago, you couldn't throw a rock without hitting someone going on about how the program had declined and we were 8-8 in the SEC over the past two years. Now, LSU has had three straight 10-win seasons, finished in the top 10 each year, won an SEC title, and played for a national title. Yet no, you think we'e underachieved because we didn't win a national title.

That is a spectacular movement of the goalposts.

When you're the preseason #1 anything else but a national title and #1 ranking is underachievement. LSU had probably the most miserable offense I've ever seen here for the first half of the season when media pundits were calling Mettenberger a "Heisman Darkhorse". LSU was going to be "tossing it all over the field". Instead, we got more of the same Big 10 football. I'm mostly happy with the end result, and know that at least the offense was trending upward near the end of the season. That said, you still can't say this wasn't underachieving.

I Susy Sunshine pump with the best of them, but I don't want to rely on an eventual fall into success, I would hope we continue to be the best at evaluating talent, out recruit, coach up, develop young players and look like we know what we are doing....not to be critical of your post.

This.

I don't think we've "underachieved". In 2008 and 2009 we had to deal with the departure of Perriloux and the co-defensive coordinators. In 2010 we finished 11-2 and lost to the eventual BCS champ who was undefeated. Last season, we won the SEC, lost in the BCS championship game, and finished 13-1. This season, we broke in a new quarterback, lost a ton of players, played a ton of freshmen, and finished 10-2. How did we "underachieve"?

Until that "debate" is settled, you really can't say LSU failed to live up to expectations. Anybody that EXPECTS LSU to have had more success than the have had in the past 5 years in the toughest conference in America, in the same division with the eventual national champion 4 of those 5 years and a permanent opponent from the East that won it the other time....... can't be rational.

Why does this matter for 2013, mett is the starter and there is only on qb on the field at a time

Every position is necessary not sure what you mean, and we don't have that much talent at DE or LB

and you know we still have a bowl game right?

Our coach failed us in the NCG. I saw it did ya'll

The season was great- the last game our leader did not lead but conceeded the game to our rivals and DID NOT COACH TO WIN

That is what I and millions of others saw.

Last year was great up to that point

The last 5 years were a failure. Anything less then a national championship every year means the program is in utter dissary and that heads need to roll.

Signed,

we were preseason #1 before losing a handful of our best players to suspension, injury and other issues.

taking it you missed most of 2010

we threw 8 more times a game for 50+ more yds/ game. if Mett had more touch on his deep balls, it'd have been even better.

given the attrition, I think the team as a whole did good to win 10. there's still some things to be cleaned up, and of course the Bama loss hurt, but I don't think this team umderachieved.
